Rescue dog won't eat - training issue?

So sounds like I'm jumping the gun before I should start to be concerned.

Rescue dog won't eat - training issue?

Thank you kindly for the tips. Very sage advice. I certainly will implement some of your points, including: - keeping her feed area calm - giving her time to eat it We discovered that she likes real turkey, and she's gobbled that up over the past two days. Granted, it's just turkey...

Rescue dog won't eat - training issue?

Hi, I rescued a 1 year, 9 month old Treeing Walker Coonhound yesterday (Sunday) from a great no-kill shelter in my area. It's in Rhode Island and they pull dogs out of high-kill shelters in the south, particularly in South Carolina. Before I adopted her, I visited her a few times in the...

    How safe is Frontline?

Sometimes I wonder if Frontline is just a big marketing scam. I hate putting it on my dogs, since it's technically a chemical pesticide. I've read that over the long-term it can cause neurological problems. I've used it for years, but I'm starting to question it. Curious what other...

Bump in the ear -- melanoma?

Appreciate all the responses. I feel better. Why the vet immediately went to that scenario, I don't know.

Bump in the ear -- melanoma?

Thanks, Mach1. The vet is the one who picked it out, not me. I hadn't noticed until the vet showed me yesterday. She immediately brought up melanoma because supposedly she just removed one from a dog's ear. But she said in that case the bump was all brown and black. The one in my dog's ear...

Bump in the ear -- melanoma?

In followup to my earlier ear infection thread, while one of my beagles was being examined today, our vet noticed a fleshy-colored small bump inside her ear. She mentioned that she recently treated a dog recently who had melanoma in its ear, so she told me to monitor the bump for any size or...

    Ear infections

Thanks for all the responses and I'll check out the blue power wash. FYI My dogs have EVO in the AM (no grains, wheat, etc) and get a frozen chicken or marrow bone in the evening. They both had a bunch of loose hair right in the ear canal, which may cause the irritation.

    Ear infections

So my beagles tend to be prone to ear infections. We're diligent about cleaning their ears, but the infections still pop up from time to time. To clean, we were using a witch hazel/tree oil herbal based solution, but our vet recommended we use a flush instead in an attempt to get deeper...

    Coyotes

I've been out of town the last two weeks, so I'm just reading all the responses now. I started the thread. So other than supervision of the dogs, what can be done to protect against coyotes? There have been no other sightings since I started the thread, but I'm still freaked out. The...

    Possible Replacement for EVO?

I love the fact that your dog's name is Steve.

    Coyotes

Appreciate all the advice. HaleyMarie, leaving the coyote body in the field reminds me of a mob hit. Hang the body up on a lightpost to serve as an example for others. I'm also taking the advice to supervise them a bit more when they're outside, especially at night. The good thing is...

    Coyotes

Not sure if the 'health care' forum is the best place to do this, but preventing my dogs from being eaten by a coyote would be good health, no? Anyway, my neighbor spotted a coyote walking across my driveway yesterday. I have two beagles and they play in the backyard, which is fenced in...

    Evo Red Meat?

Does your dog have allergies? One of my pups had a hot spot a couple years ago. Vet gave me something for it, I forget exactly what it was...but it went away. I also give my dog benedryl when her allergies are acting up. Would help with the itching.

Wohoo. You're my dog. See what I did there.

    Adding supplements

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Although chondroitin supposedly builds up cartiledge, which is highly-concentrated in the spine and discs. ??? Any problems with giving them both the salmon oil and condroitin supplement at the same time? Didn't know if you could "overdo" supplements.

    Poor Hailey

Good vibes to you, definitely. I assume the vet gave you meds? When I rescued my dogs, they had heartworms and they got through that just fine. I'm sure Hailey will be A-OK.

    Adding supplements

Thanks for the responses. Specifically, I'm thinking about adding Vetri-Disc: Vetri-Science Vetri-Disc For Dogs I have two beagles. One of them hurt his neck over the weekend when he freaked out when on a doberman. He's on prednisone now, but when that's done, I'm thinking about putting...
