After three months of trying to get Charlie used to being alone, we were refered to a behaviorist for his separation anxiety. My question is has anyone else taken their dogs to a behaviorist? What could they tell us differently than a trainer?

Charlie has been through the basic puppy obediance already, the whole sit, down, stay deal. His next session of advanced things starts in late late august. He's an obediant guy he is just really attached, he was adandoned as a puppy and I think he still thinks when we leave we're not coming back.

he needs a cage in the FINISHED BASEMENT because whn he is left to wonder upstairs and we leave, he is loud, crazy, and impossible to settle upon returning.

I've decided to put a cage in the basement for the dog, now I am wondering what should I put in the cage with Charlie to keep him busy?

Let me give you a little bit of background. Charlie was about 9-12 weeks when I adopted him from a place called Pets Without Parents (Columbus, Ohio). We brought him home and the first night, had him in his cage in the living room to sleep, although more barking/howling was done than sleeping...

I guess I am just frustrated that it isn't something I can fix very quickly, although this is prime time to work on it so here goes... :)

Yeah, we ignore him when we leave and come in until he calms down and such just really... when he can't see us he freaks out and gets really really nervous to the point that he looks like he has a problem

My puppy Charlie is 6 months old and we are trying to get him used to being left alone at home. He is potty trained and has plenty of toys to play with, we have been trying to leave him for super short intervals of time (seconds) and he is still freaking out. What can we do?!?
