Rough play with people/kids, won't play with dogs?

Please people.... nothing barbaric about it. The lime juice is done in a very calm fashion and you continue to pet and stay with the puppy to avoid fostering mistrust. If you squirted him then locked him away, maybe, but a calm manner combined with preventing the puppy from erecting a wall...

Rough play with people/kids, won't play with dogs?

I would recommend lime juice. It teaches the puppy that human skin tastes bad, and worked great for me. The first time you do it, angle the puppy's head down and flood his mouth until it runs out. Pet him, but do not praise him while he gets the taste out of his mouth. Subsequently, only a...

Rough play with people/kids, won't play with dogs?

Please don't do this.... Holding the dog's mouth closed over the muzzle cuts off their air supply and is extremely painful for the dog. That is a very sensitive spot. It might work, but every vet and trainer I've spoken to is highly against it.

Rough play with people/kids, won't play with dogs?

Just my take, but I strenuously disagree with both the "ignore the puppy and walk out of the room" approach and the "yelp like you're hurt" approach. First, the ignoring the puppy approach. To me, this merely teaches the puppy the lesson that, when it wants you to go away, it knows just...

    Help with litter box training

In my experience, puppy housetraining is most effective when you have a schedule. Puppies tend to need to go after three activities: sleeping, exercising, or eating. When your puppy needs to go, place her in the litterbox and wait for her to do her business. When she does, praise her...

    Kennel Cough??

About a week ago, my puppy consumed a fairly large amount of rawhide. Shortly thereafter, he had some difficulty keeping meals down (although his appetite was not affected). My vet said to put him on a diet of boiled chicken and white rice for a few days and keep him well hydrated. After...

How do I stop puppy biting?

Hi! I'm a new member and I recently got a new puppy. He is a 9 week old beagle/terrier mix that we adopted from a shelter. We've had him for about a week now, and i've been amazed at how quickly he is seeming to pick up on house training and crate training. The only problem I'm having with...
