Why is your dog named what he/she is named?

Lennon was called like that because that's the name of the first OES we saw. Besides, we like The Beatles a lot. Sofa was formerly called Sofia, but she jumped on the sofa as soon as we adopted her. She's such a couch potato that the name just seemed natural.

Are my dogs fighting or playing?

 That was a lucky shot. My two old english sheepdogs are constantly growling and tugging toys, they wrestle a lot but it does not go beyond that. Just pay attention to the growling tones, it if goes very low in tone or loud, or one of them is showing only the front teeth, then a cooldown...

A couple of Old English Sheepdog Paintings

My wife painted this guy this weekend: It's a small watercolor postcard with our Old English Sheepdog, Lennon. This one is based on an painting my wife made a month ago. I was driving around town, saw an old Coca Cola sign and got an idea. I stole the original from her studio, scanned...

    Hi Everyone!

  :p Those are my faces every time these guys are up to some mischief... hahahaha Yes, Chazhound, these guys are a lot of fun to live with. There was a time where My wife and I were outnumbered as we had a foster sheepdog at home... It's crazy but a lot of fun, they are always...

    Jumping

You are on the right track. The best for family members is to learn the ignore command, and soon she will learn that jumping does not get her attention. Also, when our dogs jumped on us, we let them place their paws on our shoulders and then we started to walk backwards, they really disliked...

house/crate training trouble in older puppy

Positive reinforcement is the best way to potty train. Scolding your dog after the fact he went inside is no good, since their memory can only link events taht happened 4 or 5 seconds, so he won't understand a NO! if he's not caught in the act. Taking him potty every hour or two is a good...

Greenies, have your heard of them??

Greenies are OK treats, some dogs like them, some dogs don't. Lennon used to love them, then for some reason he does not care for them any more. However, there are some words of caution when using those. Given their hard nature, it's better to keep an eye on your doggie while you...

    Licking and dominance?

Sofa, one of our old english sheepdogs, is always licking stuff too, tables, the excercise manchine, rocks and the dinner table legs, and she loves to lick my wife and me. No matter what, she never seems to stop. She likes to take away things from the alpha male, but if you chase her to take it...

    Catching a frisbee?

That seems to be a very cool trick and great excercise for your dog. Could you give me some pointers on how to teach the dogs to catch it, and what are the best frisbee types for them?

    Nipping,bitting,jumping on leg

Yelping helps a lot with biting puppies. Also, keep in hand an alternate item that they can chew on whenever thay bite your hands, like a toy or something, that way your dog will learn what's acceptable to bite and what is not. Puppies like to explore the world with their mouths and that phase...
