    "Sit!" (Old School Way)

I'm talking reliable sit. Where command responce is 98% or better even in distractions. I've never had a dog that was that good with sit in a day (even more so a distractable puppy). But by week three of basic obediance the dog is fully reliable in sit. Just beacuse they respond the first...

    "Sit!" (Old School Way)

I have used physical placement to teach sit, but you don't have to push anything. One hand on neck then run your other hand down the back and around the rump into the back legs. It takes almost no preasure at all and "rolls" the dog back on his butt. After about a week most dogs get that...

    Leerburg's "Pack Structure" video

Not really about the video BUT : I often wonder if Ed's videos should be available to the public at large. Now that he is softer maybe, but his older stuff was baised in hard working line dogs. Most pet dogs will never have the kind of drive and tanacity a true working line dog will have. If you...

    How do you go about

Keep in mind when you change the fetched object to something else you may have to "re-train" the command. Right now your command means get the highlighter, little by little you can teach her to get an objet by name or by you pointing at it. Allow for the learning curve, and have fun.

How long does it take to load the click?

So you are giving the dog one command and click/rewarding through the one command? If I did that with Tsume it would be game over. The reward (be it food, toy, or just my praise) it the end of the command. I guess everyone teaches extended stays differantly, but to me this would seem...

    Dear Moron:

Maybe this is the time to teach your dog food refusal? Yes people that don't follow the rules for your dog and then blame you when they make the dogs bad behavior are Morons. More so if they do not SEE where the behavior came from (the stupid thing they are doing). But it also gives you...

How long does it take to load the click?

If the reward is truely rewarding for the dog, and the click marks the behavior that earns the reward, the dog should be looking for the reward the moment they hear the click. That conditioning is the foundation of clicker training.

How long does it take to load the click?

It sounds more likely that the behavior is not trained and she doesn't get it. If you click with out your dogs attention does the dog look to you for a reward. If not, then your right, the dog has no idea that the click is ment to mark the reward. If the dog does look, then she does get...

    Shock (E-collars)

Maybe the people who use them are happy with their dogs and don't feel the need to spend time trying to change the minds of people who will never change their opinions on their choice training method. I don't push my chosen training methods on anyone, nor to I feel the need to justify my well...

    Shock (E-collars)

Very one sided with limited "study" group. Yes the collars can be used for horried things, but they can also be used properly to have a happy, stable, well mannored, off lead dog. Equipment is not good or bad (IMO) it is the human behind it that makes it so. I would be interested to...

    How would you handle this?

Carry an air horn and blast the dog, then tell the owner because he will not handle his dog that you will. Maybe you get more people on the band wagon and he goes away forever.

    Shiloh Shepherds?

I don't have a digital camra or scanner. My Avatar is a picture I found online that looks like my boy.

    Shiloh Shepherds?

I consider behavoir problems instability. A happy balenced dog is not destrcutive, barky, nor develops aggression or other issues. A good reason right there not to own one. If your looking for a dog with size that will do the things your looking to do a Golden, Lab, or Standard Poodle may be...

    Shiloh Shepherds?

I agree. The GSD was NEVER ment to be a 120lb beast of super sweet love everyone disposistion. Nor were they ment to look like their butts were falling off. It is a real shame what the breeding world has done to the ultimate working dog.

    Shiloh Shepherds?

Just a comment to "old style/world GSD". The GSD was first bred as a strait-back working dog, with high drive and intelegence. True "Old Style GSDs" are not fit pets. They need masters who give them JOBS and working them physiacly and mentaly EVERYDAY. Anything less will get you an unstable...

    My Reactive Rescue

Controling the dogs world is a good place to start. But it is not training, it is management. Have ANY training classes been attended at all? A good solid foundation of basic commands ; Watch me (or Look), Heel, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Wait, and Leave it, can help you manage the dog...

    Command voice

I always use a differant voice for training/giving commands. They are called commands, not request, and I give them in a calm but commanding tone. Just as I give Tsume verbal praise in a high and happy tone when he complies. By useing a commanding voice I find that my verbal cue comes out...
