Do you think this is a good game to play with my dog?

I think closing the fridge can be taught by targeting a flat square on the floor with a paw, then moving the target up onto the fridge door, then gradually phased out. Opening the door can be solved by attaching a rope tug to the handle. But how to train the dog to not help itself to an early...

    how long without drinking?

How about some real, homemade chicken soup? I kid you not, this is a great way to squeeze nutrition into a sick dog. Boil some chicken in water, add a little garlic, some carrots, leafy greens (bok choy is my fave and my dog approves), celery, NO ONION, and just let it simmer for awhile. Do...

    over weight dog

Do you have a good side view and top view of your dog? What food are you feeding now? I would suggest a huge increase in exercise first. This will help so much more than a simple food reduction. Feeding canned, no-added-salt green beans and raw carrots is an excellent suggestion; these add...

Do you think this is a good game to play with my dog?

Oh wow but think of how you can harness Sadie's power! She can bring the laundry one piece at a time (talk about a tired dog!), put empty cans in the recycling, throw away opened envelopes, fetch you a soda or beer from the fridge (and hopefully not a steak for herself), find AND fetch the...

    Advice regarding Leadership

Hello, long lost twin! :rofl1: What has helped me a LOT is to keep talking and keep BREATHING. If you really think about it, you will find you hold your breath and stand very still when you foresee a problem. I do this all the time and my dog reads me like a tabloid. Keep MOVING, keep...

Do you think this is a good game to play with my dog?

That is a good one! We are doing something similar. :) We have also taught tricks by just shaping behaviors with the clicker, no luring, none of me showing him what to do, that's a big brain boost. I also like to hide toys and food in increasingly difficult areas. I also find safe things...

Pops, what about a Kerry blue? I think you will have much better luck in a pat x or jagd x, personally. The purebred AKC terriers are completely F'd up. What about a blue lacey or lacey x terrier? The size range is about right.

    Golden Retriever/Hovawart?

Pure golden. Unfortunately, the breed is plagued with poor temperament, conformation, health, and breeding so the type and quality of goldens is going to vary a LOT. That's the price of popularity. :(

    Longhaired whippets

Dekka, good info. I suppose they would be great clicker dogs. :) Soft is not something I am too crazy about but I think that comes with the sighthound territory. Would you say the stress levels you describe is normal to whippets? I've got a very sharp, nervy dog right now that is absolutely...

Yes I am hoping Dekka sees this. :)

I'm at the end of rope, and in tears. (Long, but please read if you have time)

If Kody is dog-sociable, maybe doggy daycare several times a week will help him release some of his energies. It might be worth looking into. For some dogs it doesn't help, for others it makes a huge difference. Good luck, we have an extremely annoying barker in the family and every day I...

    Longhaired whippets

I love sighthounds. I love the "lean," the personality, the mindset, the prey drive, the running, everything. I really like borzoi but I enjoy the smaller size of whippets. The other night "Dogs 101" had a segment on whippets and I really like what was said about them..... but "Dogs 101"...

    Dog friendly cars?

The Honda Element, though ugly as s***, is very well known to be EXTREMELY dog friendly and able to cram all sorts of crates inside. There's a ton of seating/cargo configurations. But it's ugly as s***. I also have on my list the Subaru Forester. You just cannot kill a Forester. The Dodge...

    Need a place to start.

A note on rotties and kids... they can be AWESOME. As a kid, our neighbors had an intact male they kept chained out. The dad was a drunk and a mess and the dog was basically a lawn ornament that would bark at everyone in sight. One day, I was walking home from elementary school and passed by...

    Why is this ridiculous?

Sweet, VERY good point! An easy way to check is to collect the dog and check for any swimmers. It's not surgical and the dog gets a good experience at the vet. :rofl1: Or maybe a tattoo can be standardized for vasectomies that indicate the dog was done.

    Breed Guess?

Looks papillon-ish, too. Man, they need to create a breed that looks like that. Awesome. Humps everything in sight, hmm??? Maybe the Trojan folks would pick him up for their ads? ;)

    Breed Guess?

I have a few guesses but only will say GORGEOUS!!! This dog would be sought after for commercials and movies. :) From the glass and cracked eyes, I wonder if the dog is a merle? Sometimes there are merles that on first glance look anything but..... and pomeranians and shelties both come in...

They had the raptors at the EAA Fly-In at Oshkosh a couple years back. SWEET aircraft. Your son is very lucky. :)
