I use a shedding rake, pin brush, then a teflon comb. I did this everyday until I was down to using just a comb. A bath and blowdry help loosen the fur.

    Ehrlichiosis, treatment suggestions

My dog just tested positive for this also. The nose bleeding is from low platelets. Low platelets are dangerous because the dogs blood is not clotting properly. The dogs need to be on the doxy for at least 45-60 days. I would switch vets. Since the dog is having such trouble you might need to do...

    How do I prevent bloat?

Is a dog getting bloat and torsion kind of the same thing? Does bloat led to torsion? I also heard giving them 2-3 smaller meals per day vs. 1 large meal per day can prevent it.

    Training a deaf dog.

A friend of mine has a deaf Dalmation. She uses hand comands. They did put in under ground fencing just to make sure she stays in the yard. She does have a problem with nipping at people she doesn't know. I don't know if its because she is deaf that she bites. They have a sign up beware of dog...

    Any advice on barking dogs?

I use a squirt bottle on Fred. As long as he knows I have it handy and he can see it, he won't bark. You can try teaching him to bark on command then its easier to teach him not to bark. that one worked on my black lab that passed away long time ago,but it didn't work with Fred.

constantly chewing on paws & legs

What I have read is that dogs usually don't develop allergies until they are at least 1 year old. Its unusual to see a young puppy start at 10 weeks old. Its a tough to have a dog with allergies. Its expensive and the meds can be hard on there bodies. Food allergies are easier to fix,but that is...

constantly chewing on paws & legs

The puppy could have food allergies which have the same symptoms as inhalent allergies. And using medication will not clear the symptoms. You would have to try a different dog food. http://allergies.about.com/cs/canine/a/aa091800a.htm

constantly chewing on paws & legs

So did you do skin allergy testing to see what he is allergic to? Its when they inject a allergen into the skin to see if the skin reacts. Usually the shave a patch of fur and inject 20 or so different allergens. That would be different from a skin sample. You wouldn't know if he is allergic to...

    Shock Collars

I totally agree. But I can't tell by this post what has been done in the past. The question was about shock collars and I gave my advice. Maybe I should have asked more questions about the history of training that hasn't worked. Maybe the dogs haven't had any training or poor training or very...

    Shock Collars

Okay. Then my advice would be to take each one to obedience training and establish yourself as the pack leader. You are the top dog, neither one of those dogs should be. Good Luck.

    Shock Collars

I said it CAN increase aggression in dogs. The directions/training manual that came with my shock collar had a paragraph on the reasons why you shouldn't use the collar. That was one of them. Its one of those things that can happen. Training a dog with a shock collar can back fire. There also is...
