Invalid owner + adolescent Malinois =

I'll send Nyx. She'll wear him out nicely.

    Another dog sport addiction

I never knew there was a UKC club in the Stokesdale area. Not that it's all that useful since Tyr isn't allowed to play at UKC. But maybe Nyx can pull it off without eating the judge or destroying the entire search area... :p I suggest she go last.

    Another dog sport addiction

For me, nosework would be cheaper. Especailly since I could do much of the training on my own. I'd rather do agility and IPO and FR and herding but rally, obedience, tracking and nosework win due to the ability to train without traveling to classes and fewer equipment requirements. :(

    Another dog sport addiction

Oh...Nyx might like that. I haven't done any Nosework, but I did train four dogs in narcotics and loved doing it. I love all kinds of scent training. I do need to find out what my options are for allowed indications.

    Rally - Where to start?

These might help. It's been a while since I watched them, but IIRC she covers a lot of footwork and handling info. I think she really is a judge, so she should know what judges are looking for. Yes. And finishes, sits, downs, stands. Do you have ASCA up there? They allow DOS entries for...

    Which Training Method Works Best

Easy enough to solve...I'll send Nyx to one of you and when the training fails, I'll send her to the other. And to keep things fair, whoever gets Nyx second gets Morgan first and can attempt teach the EvilRedDog to be quiet. I look forward to the videos, and I will not pay for...

    Aggressive dogs and kids/babies

I agree with the other replies. Also, I'd give him something with the baby's odor that he can get familiar with or that could be used for counter conditioning work rather than the baby itself.

    What is your default command?

My idea of panic is usually very calm. I get almost zen like in the face of terror. But my default commands in a situation that might call for panic vary depending on the dog's strongest behavior. Morgan is "here", Tyr is his name, Nyx is no command or her name followed by me walking away...

    How would you teach this?

    Very true. :)

    English Shephers

Being turned on and responding to movement is a prey drive thing and far from exclusive to herding. Herding is simply a matter of channeled prey drive when used to control specific other species.

    How would you teach this?

Nope. It's a directed send dog to cone thing, followed by a sit within 3 feet of cone without touching it thing, followed by a distance position change thing. Clear as mud?;) Weirdness. That is so not how I taught articles. :p True, but I can command the sit before he crashes into...

    How would you teach this?

There's a new obedience exercise for ASCA, which is an alternative to the out of sight stays. I have some ideas, but am open to suggestions. http://www.asca.org/programs/obedience/odx

    English Shephers

Chasing cars is not herding. Any herding dog who cannot tell that a car is not a sheep has bigger problems than just the fact that he chases cars. I've owned nine herding dogs over the past 12 years and have spent a lot of time around other herding dog owners and not one that I knew was a car...

    Building a better relationship

Nyx was a lot like you describe. A couple of things that really helped with her were the "Gimme a Break" game out of CU (since you have it already) and teaching her a really strong leave it/settle where she not only has to leave food/toys/my other dogs, but she has to roll over on one hip, lower...

So very proud of the idiot

Pretty much. :D Except for the moment when I wanted to bang my head against the wall. Perhaps the next time I leave my dog on a down stay, I can remember to at least step away with the right foot, not the heeling foot, even if I do fail to give a verbal or hand signal "stay" command. I don't...

So very proud of the idiot

In addition to picking up 2 more legs for his Rally Novice C title with scores of 197 and 198 and finishing his CD title with a 192 and HIT (even with one very huge handler error that should have NQ'd us), what makes me most thrilled with Tyr's weekend performance was how he behaved outside the...
