    My Simon isnt well

We got to the vet's and it seems the meds might be the reason. But then she mentioned bloat. So I need to watch him for signs and call right away if he is doing poorly. He is still barfing- but off meds, and resting. not a good day it seems. thanks for the posts.

    My Simon isnt well

thanks. I am going to the vet in 30 min with Simon. He was perfectly healthy when we dropped him off on Thursday. then they said he became lame on Sat. Doesn't that seem like it happened on their watch? Should I be charged for any visit, or meds? I think I need to confront the vet about this...

    My Simon isnt well

looks like both of these meds cause an adverse reaction-vomiting. I'm calling the vet this morning.

    My Simon isnt well

okay he is taking : norocarp 100mg (carprofen) 1 & 1/2 tablets 2x a day with food. Cephalexin 500 mg 2 tablets 2x a day with food. He eats 2x a day- so both meds are given together. He is refusing breakfast this morning, too. I just looked at his toes... he won't let me touch his left paw. but...

    My Simon isnt well

again, this time we went away for 5 days, and put him in the kennel/vet. we always use. I come back to pick him up, and the vet said- He was lame on Sat, so we have him some pain meds, and he was licking his paws a lot. His skin was red between the toes, too. So after a whopper of a vet bill- i...

    Simon might have PTSD

tough love it is. He now eats at 8a and 8p. When I put the dish down, he would stare at me. I set my egg timer for 15 min and wait. If he didnt eat, it was taken away. this went on for about 2 days. He actually didnt eat at all for 24 hours. It was trully a battle of wills. Obviously, since I...

    Simon might have PTSD

we have talked to the vet before about the throwing up, and he suggested smaller more frequent meals during the day...sigh... and to give him antacid, because he has such a sensitive tummy. I would love to do raw. In my ideal world, I make him just the right amount of food, 2x a day and he is...

    Simon might have PTSD

So he has been on dog food now, we introduced him completely, with each meal, phasing out the rice and pork. Now he eats still 3x, sometimes 4x a day, poops almost on cue, but still, last night he needed to pee/poop at 4am. Last he ate as of today was dinner last night at 8p. Now we are...

    Simon might have PTSD

Thank for all your info. I feel like an ass for feeding him this for so long. It was the pork shoulder.. and he LOVED it. (We do too!) Anyway, I got a bag of Taste of the Wild and canned Canidae. I am giving him 1/3 can, 1 cup dry, 1/3c pork and 1/3 c rice 3x a day, with a 1030pm snack of water...

    Simon might have PTSD

thank you thank you guys for your advice. I am going out right now to the local feed store to get him some decent food until I get some books and research the homecooked meals. Any brand suggestions? Blue? Diamond naturals, taste of the wild as mentioned before? I think I am heading toward...

    Simon might have PTSD

we have given him an antacid per vet directions. I am not keen on dry food, just because it can spoil after a while. I always like him to eat fresh fresh food. What if I keep the pork with ground spinach, carrots and bananas? We eat like this- Paleo- and find he likes it too- just bland, but it...

    Simon might have PTSD

its a pork shoulder, bone in that we slow roast for about 8-10 hrs. No salt, no seasoning of any kind. We actually started it when there was a recall on timberwolf, now that I remember. He's been on it for ever it seems. The vet knows about it, too. Its never been a problem, he would eat it 3x a...

    Simon might have PTSD

oh, and he is super lean...for a big boy- the vet is pleased with his weight, so I can't say he is over eating, to the point of getting fat. I feel like I am not feeding him enough. He's almost 5 yrs and about 175-180lbs.

    Simon might have PTSD

thanks for the responses. I happen to have bach's rescue remedy here! I will start that, and get some gluten free good dog food for him, We used to do Timberwolf, he loved it, but it was super expensive! I just as well drop the rice all together and feed him straight roasted pork. (we love it...

    Simon might have PTSD

My Hero, Simon, is having major trouble, which is major trouble for me. In Oct of 2011, we in the NE (specifically CT) were hit with a giant winter storm which knocked out power to our area, and home for 12 days. We stayed with a generator...5 little kids mind you- cooking in a fireplace the...

Simon is a Hero, once again

It is 300am and I am alive. Here is why. Simon, my 4 yr old Saint Bernard woke me at 230am by whimpering, louder than usual at the base of the stairs. I am used to this, as for some time now he has early morning bathroom breaks, that require me to get up...which really irritate me by the way.(We...

    Sick Saint Bernard

well, the vet said he had elevated white blood cells, so he's fighting an infection- possibly the ulcer. He hasn't thrown up today (thankfully!) and he is eating 3x a day, smaller meals. his spirits are up! thanks!

    Sick Saint Bernard

Well, he is pooping regularly. BUT he still vomits every morning. Either he'll eat, then throw up his breakfast, or if I take him outside before breakfast, he'll eat abunch of leaves then throw up. He'll then go back and eat his food again. This has been every day since we returned from the...
