    Disenchanted with Rescue

We got told the same thing by our local beagle rescue, no fenced yard, no dog. We have a large black-coated fenced pen that is 6-foot high and holds 3-4 dogs comfortably when the weather is nice. In cold or super hot months they're on our back porch until we get home. We simply got a beagle...

    Starting a dog rescue/shelter rescue

I was definitely asking the question for down the road. We do intend to get affiliated with a shelter rescue or specific breed rescue once we have the time and money to set up a usable fenced in area and pen, etc.

    Starting a dog rescue/shelter rescue

So me and the wife have this thought down the road in a couple years of doing a rescue/shelter at our home. I was wondering if anyone had input as to available monies that may be out there for helping w/ this, or is it something that's not available and you're going to foot most of the bills...

    Beagle markings, normal or not

Our beautiful rescued beagle, Pickles, who we've had for about a year, has always had a heavily marked belly and legs underneath, but it seems they've gone from pink/gray to more of a gray/black color recently. If you know what I'm talking about, is that normal as the dog ages or something...

    new addition -- Doonbug

You all met Pickles when I joined a few weeks ago, and here's our new rescue bassett/beagle mix named Doonbug, laying back with Pickles.

Dog goes belly up when trying to redirect/train, etc.

She's getting pretty good at sit, and we're beginning to work on some of the stuff you all mentioned. Thanks. Here's our two dogs relaxing. Doonbug is obviously the bigger bassett mix.

Dog goes belly up when trying to redirect/train, etc.

We have a teddy bear of a bassett/beagle mix that we just got that is getting pretty good with the sit command, but anything else like stay, come, etc., he just eventually rolls over on his back like he's waiting for a rub. He is about a year and a half to two as they told us.

    new dog in house (posturing/humping)

Day 2: Beagle still aggressive to hump and posture, but bassett much more playful and sees as such, mouthing beagle around neck and and back and pinning down. Nothing really, really heated. Beagle is most heated when she is right on bassett's neck, moving side to side and growling hard. The...

    new dog in house (posturing/humping)

The bassett is not aggressive at all and I think sees it as play, but occasionally when the bassett reacts playfully it intensifies to heavier snarling/growling, and when the bassett plays and puts the beagle down or on back, it intensifies. I just read what's below on the training forum and...

    new dog in house (posturing/humping)

We just introduced a new heavy beagle/bassett mix to our household consisting of one beagle and cat. The smaller beagle is clearly the alpha and is constantly grabbing the bassett near back hind legs and neck and humping and posturing/growling when near neck. I hear this is normal behavior...

    Index of Pet Rescues

We rescued a great beagle last summer from Lucky Ones in Southern Maryland. Lucky Ones is a small shelter rescue group. http://www.luckyones.com/dog_adopt.htm And are picking up a beagle/basset mix from BROOD this week. BROOD is a bassett rescue organization. http://www.brood-va.org/

Beagle is house-broken, crate trained, but..

Today we closed off most of the house and let her be inside, to try out. We dog-proofed the area and are going to see what happens. She's generally very good when we're away for two-three-four hour stints, other than doing dog things like checking out trash, etc.

Beagle is house-broken, crate trained, but..

...recently has been going Number 2 in her pen and near pen. She does have to hold it during the day and usually does, and is eager to get outside when we hit home. This morning I walked her a long time, took her to the spots she normally likes for number 2, and she didn't go. We went inside...

    Thinking of adopting/fostering bassett hounds

I've read some of the negatives, shedding, stubbornness, etc, but love the look and would like to try one as a friend to our beagle dog. We are in the process of getting approved through BROOD to possibly foster/adopt one. Any info would be appreciated.

    Pickles

Glad I found these forums and here is our dog, Pickles. She's a beagle, possibly mixed, but she acts like all beagle. We saved her through a shelter saving organization and she is about two years old now. She is a great dog and trained well, listens, and sleeps under the covers. She does...
