    potty training dilemma

Thanks for the match stick suggestion. I had tried this before (one of my fellow employees breeds/shows border terriers and she does this before they go in the ring). This doesn't seem to work for my guy. In fact now he won't let me near his hind end. I pity the vet the next time he has to...

    potty training dilemma

Thanks for the suggestions. I have already put some of his poop in the backyard and he does know the poop command-he will do it on his walks. He just paces back and forth in the yard and whines because he wants out so badly. I guess I will just have to keep at it and hope for the best!

    potty training dilemma

Thanks for your reply. I try to stay out as long as I can with him-usually 20 minutes to a half hour. I try to get him running to loosen things up but this doesn't seem to help. I tried putting poop out back so he could smell it but that didn't help. I will definately praise him/ treat him...

    potty training dilemma

Hi all. I have a 15 month old Victorian Bulldog named Magnus. He is completely house broken but the frustrating thing is he refuses to poop in our back yard. We moved about 3 months ago, and up to that point he would poop in the yard at the old house (it was not fenced). The new house has a...

    HELP! Juvenile Behavior!

Our 4.5 month Victorian Bulldogge started going through his juvenile behavior stage about 2 weeks ago. We started him in training at 11 weeks and he did unbelievably well for the first 6 classes. Suddenly he is so defiant for me and for the trainer. She used to be able to get him to do his...

    Help! My puppy won't poop!

Thanks guys! We are feeding him Go Natural, about 1.5 cups a day (3/4 cup in the morning and 3/4 at night). I should say some days are great and he will go no problem, other days (like yesterday) it was a nightmare. The stool doesn't seem overly dry and he seems very healthy other than this...

    Help! My puppy won't poop!

Thanks for your replies. He is definately frustrating in this department. He finally went this morning at 6:15 after breakfast. Some days he is great and we will get the 3 poops without any trouble and other days it seems impossible. Hopefully today will be better. Otch1 we are from Canada...

    Help! My puppy won't poop!

We have a 14 wk old Victorian Bulldog who has a phobia about pooping. He doesn't mess in the house, but he won't go outside either. He last went about 1:30pm and it is now 10:30 pm and he still hasn't gone. He ate his dinner at 5:00 pm and has been outside at least 20 times since then. We...

    Invisible Fence Question

Thanks for your thoughts on the leash training. We have tried to entice him with treats and lots of praise but he is quite stubborn. We have found that if either me or my husband walks 5 or 6 steps ahead he is more likely to walk on the leash. This is great if we are both home, but if we are...

How to teach puppy to let you know he needs to go?

Maybe our bulldog pup is too young to do this, (10.5 weeks) but I was wondering the best way to train him to let us know he needs to go. We take him out really often-at least every hour, (more if he has been playing). He seems a bit phobic of being outside and sometimes when we take him out to...

    Invisible Fence Question

Thanks for all your thoughts. Just to clarify, we were not thinking of putting the puppy out and leaving him unattended. We were just thinking it would help with boundaries as he moves very fast and can get away in the blink of an eye. We are starting puppy training in a couple of weeks so...

    Invisible Fence Question

Hi all! We live in a subdivision and it is really not feasible to put up a traditional fence around our property. We are contemplating an invisible fence to help contain our 10 wk old Victorian Bulldog. Any opinions on this-good or bad would be appreciated. Also is there an danger in using...

My puppy won't listen to me!

Thanks for your reply. I do try to use my most masculine voice when I yell OW! and it definately am loud. I should say that sometimes he does listen but when he is really fired up it is impossible for me to gain control again. I have him sit before he eats and we have been working on recall...

My puppy won't listen to me!

We have a 8.5 week Victorian Bulldog, and he is wonderful for my husband. If he bites him he just has to say OW! and Magnus will let go or mouth very gently. If he bites me and I say OW! or OUT even as loudly as I can, he will still continue to bite hard. Obviously my husband has been able to...

    Do pet repellents really work?

Thanks for your replies. It is not so much a matter of patience, but I am worried about him getting sick from eating the plants and mulch in my garden. He is very persistent and will bite chunks of the plants off and eat them. The same with the mulch. I am just trying to deter him so he...

    Do pet repellents really work?

We are trying to teach our 7 week old Victorian Bulldog boundaries, and it isn't going terribly well. He loves to go in the garden and eat the cedar mulch and as many times as we remove him and say no he goes immediately back to the area. I noticed some pet repellents at the pet store but I am...

    Can you overfeed a puppy?

Thanks for your replies. We are feeding him Go Natural, which is an all natural pet food that the breeder and vet recommended. He has had his first set of shots and the vet gave him a clean bill of health. We have been splitting the food up into 3 small meals but keeping within the range of...
