Haha. I guess we're looking at it from two different perspectives - shedding hairballs all over the house vs. a groomer's perspective for getting all the undercoat out at once. As a groomer of almost 10 years, I stand by my statement. Your statement backs up my statement, though - the long haired Akitas (and shepherds, and huskies, etc) DON'T seem to shed a ton, because all the undercoat just gets stuck in there... but it's all in there, and it does need to come out, so my job is 10x harder. I have a couple long haired Akita clients, and next to my standard coated Akita, they wouldn't be terrible in-house shedders at all. If I don't keep up with his coat, he leaves furballs all over my house. But at least he keeps his hair to himself between coat blows, unlike Labs and the like, that just seem to leave hairy imprints everywhere, every day lol
Most akitas just have twice a year coat blowout in the spring and fall, other than that it's too bad as long as you keep them brushed weekly.

What? I like fluffy dogs. So what do you think the worst shedder is?

For their size: Poms.
GSDs are really surprising for their normal coat length, but by volume a husky is probably a bit worse.

Malamutes maybe, but there are bigger dogs, Newf?

Other votes?

(and yes, the short haired dogs are crazy in their own non- fluffy way)
Yes, I agree pomsky has a shedding problems. But, if you use some tips like brushing twice a day, grooming your dog, etc. If you care your dog than no health issues affect your dog. Pomsky need shed and grooming regularly. For more details click here.

Huskys and Malmutes are by far the worst shedders! With their double coats they shed twice a year! Summer/ Fall and Winter/Spring!

I have a Beagle x Basset Hound, and she's the worst shedder I've owned. White hair everywhere! I also fostered a husky who was a crazy shedder. My Pomeranian was the least shedding dog I owned, but I kept him well groomed. Not clipped, just brushed out frequently.
