    Choosing the right herding breed?

Sensitive to corrections is more what I'm referring to. It's not something I thought I'd mind, until living with a very soft dog who would shut down if I used a stern voice. I didn't want to seek out a breed more prone to sensitivity. I could smack my ACD in the head with a 2x4 and he wouldn't...

    Choosing the right herding breed?

You described my ACD. I think the most atypical thing about him is that he is VERY social and friendly towards strangers, but his focus is on me and his "job" first and foremost - so he never blows me off to visit with people, he never gets distracted by people, but when it's time to say hi he...

    Attention Breed Experts

Typical herding breed sport dog? lol. You would probably love my ACD but (super unfortunately) I don't think he's necessarily always "typical" for the breed. But he has great drives and puts 1000% into everything he does, could excel at just about anything if I put the effort into it; really...

    What happened?

A lot of us have stayed in touch on facebook so I think for the most part people have just stopped posting here.

What do you think of this device?

Umm yeah no lol. If it immobilizes them I'd imagine it's out of fear and not because they're actually cool with the whole thing. I know some small dogs do better when they're held for nail trims but it's usually because they just prefer being held. I went the sedative + anti-anxiety med...

Peeing a lot-when to be concerned?

If it continues beyond today I'd start ruling out medical stuff. Not sure on your clinics policies, but if we've examined the dog within the past year we are ok with just having a urine sample dropped off without needing to see the dog for an exam. (Unless the urine results indicate otherwise of...

What is the most common thing you say to your dog(s)?

Probably "hey, knock it off" and "this is not okay." Nothing cutesy here lol.

    Dog beds

I like the costco beds too. I also really like cots and just throwing blankets on them - super easy to keep clean.

    Let's Be Controversial

Yeah I just feel like that 8-10 week age range can be a prime time for them to hit a fear period and that's not when I want to throw a puppy into a brand new home. I know some people prefer to wait until like 12 weeks but honestly I want to be in charge of my puppy's socialization so don't want...

    Let's Be Controversial

It really drives me batty on the ACD facebook group when people are like oh you need to give these guys HOURS of exercise daily amd EVEN THAT WONT TIRE THEM OUT. I'm like no. That's how you create an insane dog who won't settle down after you've given it hours of exercise. Teach your dogs to...

    Allergic to Vaccines?

You can absolutely have adverse reactions to vaccines. Generally if people want to continue vaccinating, we will give an injection of a steroid or antihistamine prior to giving the vaccine to (hopefully) prevent the reaction from occurring. Definitely call and let them know.
