Does anyone do their own vaccinations??

This is not possible here. Every vet I have called {Ottawa and Cornwall area} will charge you a vet check of $45-$50 depending on which vet; each and every visit. You cannot just request vaccines without a vet check. I have tried this before with young puppies {vet check and first vaccine; four weeks later I do not see a reason for a vet check with the second vaccine but they insist otherwise no vaccine. Big money grab if you ask me!

Yes He has just been in for a checkup about 2 months ago so I don't need that and it wasn't factored into the price. As for the lepto it has been prevalent in my area the past few years (Long Island) and since this dog sticks his face in everything and goes to the park weekly I think it is a good idea.

I just sucked it up this year and had the vet do it. They also said they HAD to do an examination before they would administer the vaccine just to make sure he is "healthy enough" for it. By next year I will certainly look into doing it myself.

I can, but I choose not to, especially with puppies. I think the checkups that they get with their vaccs are very important.

I would still take him in for an annual but it is just the extra cost of the vaccines that isn't needed.

We have the same issue BRT. It's not just for vaccs it's for everything. Want to go into the vet for any issue, it's a check up fee even if I was just there. It took a lot of looking to find a vet to hw test Cider even though she'd just had a check up a month and a half prior where they refused to hw test her. Said it hadn't been long enough, and I HAD to wait till april or may.

Then wanted to charge me 57 dollars to walk in the door, and then 50 to hw test. I switched vets, I finally found one that would hw test for 40 and tax, and didn't require a check up too, as I just wanted test results.

I have no choice with the BRTs I have to take them to the vet because I need proof of everything since I am going to be showing.

I also lost my source for my own vaccines; use to be a retired vet who would cross the boarder and bring them home for me. He is very ill and cannot do it anymore. I do not have the confidence to order off the Internet because there are too many kinds and I do not know enough about it to take that venture on my own.

Sorry hun, I'm in Whitby, way too long a drive. Some of my american show friends have these great prices on near everything. I've found anything I've ever needed done to be 2-4x more expensive. I so need to find a small vet out in farm country.

Smudge is due for his one year shots in May, Cider her every 3 year rabies DHPP in december. *sigh*

My sister is a vet tech so she usually does all my dogs' shots for me, except for rabies because in Colorado, you have to be a licensed vet to give the rabies shot.

With Rhea though, this is her last year getting any shots (except for rabies since it's required by law), as she'll be 8 next year and I don't find it neccessary for her anymore. As a service dog here she only needs to be current on rabies, plus she'll be retiring sometime next year hopefully.

My dogs also go in for a yearly check-up and heartworm prevention (luckily we don't have fleas here!). The puppy went in for a check-up when we first got her at 5 weeks, and my sister will be doing her puppy shots that she's licensed to do. She is also licensed and trained in check-ups, so that helps too. At 16 weeks, I'll take her back into the vet for rabies.

I just find it easier having my sister do them cause she does them at my house and Achilles gets pretty anxious at the vet's office, so anytime I can save a trip there for him is good. She gets the vaccines from Pikes Peak Animal Supply here. It also saves me a lot of money as the vet usually charges $20-25 per shot, plus the $45 fee just for walking in the door. I also like that the shots she gets for my dogs don't contain the corona vaccine, while the ones at the vet do.

I'm not one for giving my dogs vaccines they don't need. I don't do bordetella or giardia either. Then again, I never get the flu shot for myself either, while my husband does and gets the flu every year. Lol, I've never gotten it, even from him.

I vaccinate my own dogs. I use ProGuard 5. I vaccinate puppies, at a year, and then titer and booster if needed. I haven't had a dog need a revaccine in 8 years. Rabies by the vet since I can't give it myself.
