Some times it's fun to have these sort of light hearted threads.

Spanky - He's my little Rascal. Get it.... Little Rascals.... Spanky.:lol-sign: No one gets it. People alway say how it's such a dumb name. I'm like SHEESH! Only dog I've ever named. Lighten up I'm new at it. All the others were named by other people. Don't make fun at my bad naming skills. Plus I like it. It's been a year and a half and I still enjoy the name. I called him Swish the first two days I had him. Didn't really enjoy it. He was too much of a trouble maker. Not to mention Swish sounded like Swiss to me and I really did not want people to nickname him Cheese.

Bandit - He came with his name but it's because the white around his neck is shaped like a bandana. Hence the name Bandit. I was originally going to change his name to Spook but decided against it.

Miley - I'm assuming she was named after Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus because really where else have you heard such a cookpot name?

Shelby - My mom named her. Shelby the Sheltie. It made sense. Rolled off the tongue. I wanted to name her Halo. It was a no go.

Annnnd go.

It's a powder candy from the Lucas company. That's stuff was HORRIBLE for you! Made in Mexico.......'nuff said. LOL :p

But as a kid in Southern California I ate it all the time. And I mean ALL the time! The lemon-lime Lucas was best.

Sarama, in Vedic Hindu mythology, was a little red or brindled (not clear) herding dog who gathered the cows (rays) of the sun together so that dawn would come. She was also the messanger of the king of the gods, the herald of the dawn, and the bitch of heaven (I love that phrase). Hymns and song were sung of her beauty, her fleetness, and her faithfulness. Some say that she is the same being as Ushas, the Dawn herself.

Anyway, I was a religious studies major in college, specializing in Hinduism, and when I saw her, I thought, she looks just like I imagined Sarama! Thus, that is her name.

Kalinka's Kroshechka Xavroshechka Iz Teremka

Shortened to Krosha because her registered name is too much of a mouth full.

She is a Black Russian Terrier so her name is russian {it is a russian fairy tale}

She came with the name and we like it so we decided not to change it!

Patches and Scirracco came with their names.

Walker- was named Harvey in the shelter and I had to change it lol. I wanted Colby (after the APBT line) but no one else did so jokingly I suggested Walker since he is part Treeing Walker Coonhound and it stuck.

Tytus- My dad wanted a masculine name for a male APBT and the other one he picked was Morgon and it didn't fit.

Whisper- because my brother told my mom she was just a Whisper of a dog.

Bruzer- well, he looks like a little bruiser with his stocky body and pushed in nose.

Gunnar- we originally wanted to call him Hans, which means God's gracious gift, but because he was from a "G" litter his breeder asked use to name him with a G name. We looked up names and found Gunnar, which means "bold warrior". We kept Hans as his middle name, Gunnar Hans vom Landsgut.

Daisy Mae- she was a beautiful little flower when we got her. Now she's a beautiful huge flower. :)

Because young children are stupid and un-creative. I mean wow, "Midnight" is such a cool and unusual name. Not.

Ella is named after jazz singer, Ella Fitzgerald. In fact, our Ella's middle name is Fitzgerald.
My son named her. I let him because he was always nervous around dogs and scared of them. Before we got Ella, I spoke with him daily about getting a dog and got him warmed up to the idea. I then told him he could name her. He said, "Ella, like Ella Fitzgerald, mom"
Then he went off singing "That's Why the Lady is a Tramp".

I named both dogs before I actually got them. Kiba is named after a (then my favorite) anime called WolfsRain. I just liked the name. It means fang in Japanese, which ironically at about 6 months she had 8 fangs at once. LOL. Reg name is Meredisu's Ookami Purinsesu (Meredith's wolf princess).

Stryder - A lady I used to work with used to be a librarian, and every book she read she had like a database of all the character names? (dont ask.. idk either) and she printed off her "male list". Stryder just kinda stuck. Well actually, I couldnt decide on that, Mikey (really Michaelango from the TMNT) or Charlie. So is real first name is actually Stryder-Michael-Charlie (no middle name). Plus he's got the longest legs of a schnauzer Ive ever seen, and it kinda goes with the LoTR books. Reg name is Meredisu's Samurai in Stryde.

Yeah, I'm a big kid. (aka DORK!!)

Ares ~ named for the Greek God of War -- I am into the mythology, plus when I got him, I was a Xena fan.

Morgan ~ needed something part Celtic, part cowgirl, the name just fit her naturally. When she's in trouble, I call her Morrigan, which I later found out was a Celtic war goddess.

Tyr ~ the Norse God of War -- it was only after naming Tyr, that I realized I had three dogs all with names of war deities.

Nyx ~ in case you hadn't noticed, I am sticking with a mythology theme in my dogs' names. Nyx has enough fire in her to not need a war diety name, and after much research, I found Nyx and I liked the name ~ Greek Primordial Goddess of the Night.

show names ~

Ares is Leaping Little, because a friend of mine always called him "Mr Little" and he is spring loaded, and my name is Liz which sometimes led to nicknames of Lizard, so "leaping lizards" became Leaping Little.

Morgan is Lizard's Gem because her mom's kennel name is Gemini and the Lizard is from my nickname and she is precious.

Tyr is Turn It On, Turn It Up, Turn Me Loose, named for the Dwight Yoakam song.

Carlie- because we almost got a Border Collie named Charlie and I LOVE the name Charlie for a male dog, but it didn't really fit Carlie so we named her Carlie (which rhymes with Charlie..how lame is that)

Vixen- because it means "female fox" and she looks like a fox, and also because it's Christmas-themed (since we got her close to Christmas)

Mary is named after a little girl i use to babysit and would have adopted as one of my own in a skinny minute. MAry the dog had the same serious manner that Mary the girl was so much like. VIctor was named Mathew at petfinder, we got way to many mathews around here and my Mom was determined to find the right name. Everytime i came over she would study him, said he needed something noble. Looking at a skinny gangly pointerpup is anything but noble. How she saw him as he has grown to become i do not know, but VIctor is just the perfect name for him now.

Mine are diminutive's of their registered names usually..we have a Little Rascal name too tho...Buckwheat, our mix.

"Ellie" is a shorter version of her reg name Ryngwrayth's Elite Eight
"Nonnie" was named by her breeder...she came here as an adult. She was the last pup in the litter to have a call name...she had No Name so she was "Nonnie" I pronounce it differently tho...like Bonnie with an N.

But other's I have had have been drawn from the registered names. I usually don't have a reg name if it doesn't have a good call name to go with it...

Ellie's bro was "Bracket" (he's now Joe tho...new owner)...Ryngwrayth's Bracketology.

My girls in this last litter were both Zelda game names..."Windy" is Ryngwrayth's The Wind-Waker her sister was Twyla "Twilight Princess" but the breeder changed that to "Texas Twilight".

I had a Rizzo, Sandy, and Frenchie litter as well with Grease themed reg names.

I enjoy naming dogs...always fun to find themes.

Buddy- we had been bantering back and forth about names, but we couldn't decide. So we had been calling him "buddy". I would say things, like, we'll find a name for you soon, buddy" and then my dad, the pure genius that he is.. said, why not call him Buddy? Duh... Ok.

Banzai- Sticking with the "B" theme- he needed a bam! here I am! kind of name. We had thought about Boomer. But that didn't exactly fit.. so we thought about Banzai... you know, like, BAAAAAANNZZZAAAAAAAAAI. LOL. Yup, I'm weird.

Bella- again, sticking the theme, her name was already chosen for her before she came home. We knew the name might not fit her, but it was obvious it did when she was finally here. :)

I had had Bella picked out for my great dane.. but since hubby got his fila first, he won. We might have to stray outside of our "B" theme when we get new additions.
