My girlfriend just sent me an email that her dog walker can't do it any longer. My girlfriend's dog is 2 years old but has gotten used to being walked 2 - 3 times a day while she & her husband are at work. She asked me about a Doggie Litter Box in case they can't get a walker to take her dog outside during the day to go pottie. They don't have the time to train the dog to hold it longer and don't want to clean up a mess when they get home.

I told her I'd ask here if anyone used one and what kind.

Well, I prefer the idea of a dog litter box to forcing the dog to hold it all day, but they're going to have to take a lot of time to teach the dog to use it.

Not to mention that if it's a larger dog, they're going to have to fashion their own litterbox and pay a pretty penny for "litter".

Can they find anyone else to walk their dog?

I think it's a bad idea. If the dog gets used to using it, he may not want to go outside anymore. Do they have any doggie day care places around where they can drop him off for the day?

I think its one thing to choose to train a dog to use a little box/pee pads when they are young, but when they are trained to go outside and then you try and do it the other way around, probably not a good idea...

I would look further for another dog walker, doggie daycare, etc
Or coming home at lunch to let the dog out?

Problem is litterbox training will take months too.. So that would be a guaranteed mess issue if they don't have the tiem to train and correct for the behaviour they want..

Cider was litterbox trained till 7ish months old. We lived in an apt, 6th floor middle of winter. She wasn't getting the 5 minute trip downstairs and outside when she messed inside, took too long. Wasn't ideal though. Wouldn't want to ever do it again.
