I guess it isn't because they're on him and they are itchy. i picked up that DE stuff and i have a citrus extract juice cooling off from making it. I am going to put the citrus extract on him and rub it in to kill the fleas. i am going to be using the DE on the carpet/bedding ect. i know to wear a mask and im going to keep him out of the room for a while after i use it so he doesn't inhail the dust cloud.

Fleas you can see. They leave black dirt behind and can usually be seen running all over. My suggestion would be to treat the dog with revolution incase its a microscopic mite of some kind.

see 1 flea and there are 10 . Flea " dirt " will turn red if swabbed with alcohol .

So this has become ww3 in my home. with a three pronged effort.. War front on my dog (did a citrus extract rubbing) Warfront in my room. Sprinkled DE (messy stuff...) and war on the mice... put 2 traps down.. caught 2 mice.. put 2 more down.. should have more soon, i have yet to see the fat one i've seen running around.. i hate me some varments...


oh and there is no more dust cloud.. can i let my dog back in my room? he's been crated alot today.. cept for walks..

I feel your pain. I am going through the exact same thing with my dog. We found a flea on him at the vets office and my doc put him on a antibiotic, steroid, and capstar. The antibiotic helped to get rid of the irritation on his belly, and the capstar helped, but only for a short while. The steroid did nothing but make him pee a lot. He has been on Frontline continuously for almost a year. I am going to try bathing him with oatmeal. If that doesn't work, who knows what I will do:( Good Luck!

Yea, I just switched him to Advantage. I also switched his food from Nutro to Canidae, and am now starting to put fish oil in his food. It really is a frustrating ordeal. I almost feel as if my vet is giving me the run around. That's why I started doing my own research. Hopefully all of this along with the oatmeal baths makes a difference. If not, I'm afraid I will have to go back to the vet.

Would you happen to know how much oatmeal I need to use? Do I cook it like I normally would? I have a 28 lb. schnoodle.

I have never used actual oatmeal. I use this:

But, I think what you do is put oatmeal in like pantyhose or something like that and then put that in the water and let it soak for a while and sort of dissolve a little bit into the water, so it's not like you actually have oatmeal floating in the water.

you might want to take in a fecal sample to your vet for your dog..

fleas are great for carrying tapeworm and tapeworm isn't a common intestinal parasite the "usual" pest control(Sentinol, Advantage etc) can protect against.

Thanks for the advice but we did the fecal test a while back. Nothing came back. I noticed today that he has what looks like mosquito bites all over his lower belly. I also found another flea. I have bombed my apartment once and that did nothing. There is another dog in the household but it's my roommates. He is on Frontline as well. He will be gone for 2 weeks so I'm going to see if this changes anything. This ordeal is stressing me out!

Just to point out, what "flea dirt" really is, is small dried specs of blood, so just putting water on it should liquify the blood again, and it will be red (of course) and you know its flea dirt
