Well In a dog food made in central america called ascan they have two weirds ingridients.

First is "destillers dried grain" but it dosen't mention whish ones, could be the same grains for making beer??

The other ingridient is "yuca" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuca that's a root is of common use on people diet in many central america's countries.

The flavor is similar to fried potatoes but the texture is softher and a little fiberish.

But it looks like this dog food is pretty bad.

They use "brewer's yeast" here a lot of times. Don't quote me, but i'm pretty sure the last brewery tour I went on in St. Louis (years ago) said that they used stuff was trained off and sold to animal feed manufacturers. That was great for the beer makers, they got paid for their waste that they would have had to pay to get rid of before, they now make money by creating waste, and our animals get to eat their waste.

I"m not sure if it was the yeast or other parts, They use rice and wheat a lot of times too, so maybe its those waste parts, I don't know for certain

I'm not positive so you might want to check into it a little more. I feed all RAW for all our animals so I don't worry about those things anymore, and am less inclined to really research it anymore.

is Yuca different from Yucca because I know Yucca is poisonous to dogs, not seriously (although one site said it can cause seizures) but causes vomiting, diarrhea and just an icky feeling dog. i would not feed it to my pet!

Actually, I think Distillers Grain would be closer to Brewer's Rice, which is also found in some dog foods.

Yucca Schidigera is often included in dog foods. I believe it helps with digestion and helps control "dog breath".

well I've seen it in a lot of foods so I'm not sure if it is really bad but I have read it is some what toxic. Maybe they are two different plants (same common name but different scientific name). Or maybe it is safe in small quantities.

Brewer's yeast is sold in health food stores and is loaded with B vitamins. A lot of people supplement with it. I've heard it helps keep fleas away too. I don't think it's a bad product.

Yuca and Yucca are different things. Hopefully, Yuca is the one in the food. It's a staple in many countries and I dont' know how it would be different than having brown rice or potatoes in a food.

I dont' know much about distiller's grain except they have a website dedicated to it http://www.distillersgrains.org/grains/ Sounds like it could be used as any other grain and could be good or bad.

If its a major ingredient, then it is Yuca.

The following foods contain Yucca Schidigera Extract:
-Canidae All Life Stages
-Eagle Pack Holistic Select
-Solid Gold
-And a lot of others...
