walmart food better than Nutro

I am pretty sure i have found a walmart food that is better than nutro.
i just want to share

what i am feeding is nutro high energy.

Chicken Meal, Ground Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of natural Vitamin E), Dried Beet Pulp, Rice Bran, Rice Flour, Lamb Meal, Natural Flavors, Soybean Oil, Sunflower Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of natural Vitamin E), Potassium Chloride, Monosodium Phosphate, Choline Chloride, Dried Kelp, Dried Egg Product, Vitamin E Supplement, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Zinc Proteinate, Biotin, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Manganese Proteinate, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Niacin Supplement, Chondroitin Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Pantothenate, Copper Sulfate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Copper Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Riboflavin (source of Vitamin B2), Vitamin A Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of Vitamin B1), Garlic, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Calcium Iodate, Folic Acid.

i cant find an ingrediant list online so i have to type it out.

Chicken, chicken meal, brewers rice, ground wheat, ground barley, corn gluten meal, chicken fat, dried beet pulp, carrots, natural flavors, peas, calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, rewers dried yeast, dreid egg product, salt, blueberry pomace, monocalcium phosphate, proteinated minerals (zinc, copper, manganese), choline chloride, zinc sulfate, vitamin e supplement, ferrous sulfate......
and some other stuff

i have been to the dog food project site and i know what ingredients are bad in these two foods, but how do they compare next to each other?

BTW this walmart dog food claims
"no bio products, preservatives, artificial colors or flavors.

My dogs wouldn't get either...

The first things I notice is that the Walmart brand uses chicken fat, nutro uses poultry fat. They both have corn gluten, but Walmarts food has it further down the list then the Nutro does. Nutro seems to have a lot rice fillers in also.
Nutro has the vitamin k suppliment Menadione in it, Walmarts doesn't.

I would think that the Walmart brand is better, but I'm not super knowledgeable about foods. I'm sure more members can give better advice.

that was my reason for think its better than nutro.

buddies parents, there is no telling what brand of dog food i will put Ruckus on when its time for me to get another bag. probably timber wolf organics. i am just surprised i found something somewhat quality at walmart.

Are you feeding the Nutro Max or the Nutro Natural Choice?


Nutro Natural Choice is a good food, I especially like the lamb and rice.

That wouldn't surprise me. Nutro really isn't great food- it's decieving though because it's marketed and priced as if it is.
Costco's Kirkland food (the highest end one) is supposedly pretty decent and is very well priced. Canidae is better priced than Nutro and is quite a bit better. Of course just because a food is good, doesn't mean that particular food will work well for your dog. I have also seen dogs appear very healthy on the cheapest crappiest food around-- not that they should be fed crappy food, it's just a funny thing to try to compare foods.
For me a big part too is what you can't see in the ingredient list or nutrient profile and that's what quality the ingredients are. That's why a big factor for me wether I'm feeding kibble, canned or raw is buying a brand that's made by a company I really trust.

If I was forced to choose, I would feed the Walmart food over the Nutro based on menadione alone...

Does the WMart contain menadione?, It seems you didn't post all the ingredients of it.

I fed the Maximum Nutrition for a number of years and the dogs did well on it not to mention the price. I really like Wellness but I couldn't afford to keep them on it. So a nice compromise in $ I ended up with Canidae. Not going to break my pocket book but a bit better than Maximum Nutrition.

its sad what dog food is. i dont know if it has always been this awful.
a lot of you here probably look down on me for feeding this. where i am from my options are very limited unless i get it shipped, and the shipping is high. thank goodness someone told me timberwolf organics did free shipping.

I would never look down on someone for feeding the best food they can afford. The people who really burn my biscuits are the ones who can afford better but don't care enough to spend the money on it.

Anyway, between the 2 foods you posted I would choose Maxximum Nutrition... although there are lots of things about both foods that I don't like. I think it's awesome that you're going to get Timberwolf Organics!!

we DO have an eagle pack dealer near me so i might do that rather that timberwolf organics. i bought eagle pack power formula a while back, but i paid for the shipping and the shipping alone was near 30 dollars.

oh, eagle pack has ground yellow corn as the second ingredient! isnt that bad?
