Difficult decision/ not many options

I have to make a very difficult decision. I got a beagle/lab mix puppy 3 days ago for my sister. This puppy was started on science diet at the shelter where I got her from, and I am having the hardest time trying to figure out which puppy food to feed her. The puppy is 9 weeks old.

My dog who is now 2 years old has been on EVO since she was a puppy. The person I got her from was feeding her science diet, and it was making her very sick. It was then that I found this forum and learned more about how to read ingredients, and compare brands. I then decided to feed her EVO and she is still doing great on it.

I would feed the puppy evo, BUT! where my sister lives (southern Baja California, Mexico) there are not many options when it comes to dog food. The puppy is staying with me until April 1st (in San Diego CA). The puppy will be living for a year in Mexico with my sister, so I need to put the puppy on a dog food that my sister can find in Mexico.


I told my sister to check which dog food brands are available in La Paz.
Here is the list:

-Eukanuba
-Nutro
-Diamond
-Pedigree
-Purina

I have been driving myself crazy looking/comparing Eukanuba and Nutro for the past 3 days.

I need some advice! Please help me decide!

If that is ALL she can get, go with Nutro.

But has she checked out Canidae and Eagle Pack?

Or Wellness, Mother Nature, HealthWise, California Natural, NB, Solid Gold, and Timberwolf Organics?

I really trully wish there were other dog foods available, but those are ALL the dog brands available where she lives.

Is she willing to drive 30 mins to an hour?

Not sure about this, but does Mexico have Petco's? If so, you can get NB there I think.

If those are her options, Nutro seems to be the winner. Sure wish she had better choices, though. Good luck to you and her.

My sister does not have a car. She just finished med school, and is doing a year of social service in a tiny town that is 3 hours from La Paz. To get any of the brands I mentioned, she has to take a bus to a bigger town (1 hour trip) and then another bus (2 hours) to La Paz (the nearest city).

If nutro is the best she can get....

Since nutro it will have to be, which of these would you recommend?

-Natural Choice puppy
-Natural Choice puppy Chicken meal, rice, and oatmeal formula
-Ultra puppy

Ultra Puppy.

Go with the Nutro Ultra which is MUCH better than all the other options. She can always add in natutal foods like small amounts of fresh meat, eggs, cottage cheese along with fruits and veggies on occasion too.

Without a doubt Nutro Ultra is the best of the choices you listed!

I agree with what's been said. She should go with Ultra, if it's her only option. Ultra is Nutro's holistic food, and the ingredients are better than the ones in Max and Natural Choice.

Where does it say they ship to Mexico Pomp? http://www.petfooddirect.com:80/store/cs_shipping.asp? I did a quick scan but didn't see it. I'm assuming that this new thing called customs might have a problem with shipping animal products internationally

I think a home prepared diet might be the best and most affordable way to go. Especially in small towns in Mexico!
