Well, I have noticed Hershey always wants food, we feed him Pedigree, and bad stuff like that. and we can't afford the premium stuff off the internet. it is annoying, he has already bitten me many times over cat food, and trash, and more. he always is hungry!!! and he wants MORE, MORE, and MORE! ahh! ALWAYS hungry! tearing up things, eating floors, rugs, everything, I am about to kick him outside again! Thats how bad, he is. ug, and I don't want to kick him out.. Is the stuff you find off the internet, actually cheaper? I don't know, he always eats, he lives for eating, like he is always hungry. I have hurt myself multiple times because he was in food he wasn't supposed to be in. anything, you name it. Any tips? thank you for reading!

Spirit, I'm no expert but from what I have read (and experienced), the better dog foods (like Canidae which I feed) may seem a little more expensive but the dog eats LESS so you really save money!!

Colt weighs about 20 lbs and is almost 8 months old and he eats about 1 1/2 cups a day which is what the guideline says on the bag. A 20 lb bag lasts me at least 3 months right now and costs about $20 (give or take I forget exactly).

I know my dogs are always hungry too. Maybe get him a nice big raw meaty bone or a bully stick to chew on? The raw bones would probably keep him entertained longer though. Eating rugs might be out of boredom, does he have toys? Maybe a kong filled with peanut butter would help.

He's a lab! They generally live to eat. Just because he is acting hungry doesn't mean he actually is. Dogs are oportunistic feeders by nature, so it is normal for them to always be looking and accepting food and acting hungry. Feed him the appropriate amount and the rest of the time keep him mentally stimulated to avoid the destructive behaviors. He sounds more bored than hungry.

Pedigree is junk, but you know that. Do you guys have access to Costco? Could you convince your parents to buy Kirkland? Canidae is also very reasonably priced and you feed less of it than Pedigree so in the long run it doesn't cost as much. And, there are plently of places to buy premium brands. You don't have to order online.

hmm, thanks guys! but, um, could you show me some webs bumhouse? :p helpful to me. sounds good. :) but, um I don't know the websites of the foods. he would probably be less hungry with a better brand. :p and he needs more toys. preferably a kong. but, I'll give it a try!

I don't know any websites, but check the phone book for health food stores and stuff. Also feed shops sometimes sell the better brands of foods. Someone else will probably have links for you. I think you can do this if you do a cost comparison and how much pedigree you are buying a month vs. a bag of Canidae ALS (I'm assuming you use dry kibble though).

Oh, also, Colt eats stuff up for attention or boredom - not because he is hungry. Considering that Hershey is left outside quite a bit, that may be why he is somewhat destructive upon coming in. If I leave Colt alone in a room and he can't get to where I am because the gate is up, he will chew up my rug out of ANXIETY over being separated from me!!

Do you mind sharing what city and state you are in? Then I could help look up places near you that carry the better brands.

Or, you can visit these sites and look up their "store locater" button and find where you can purchase the food near you.

I have had two year old kids and the dog is better (except have you ever heard a Collie bark? That is just as bad!!). But, yes, dogs can be destructive. Someone on here named Doberluv (a mod in the puppy forum I believe) has great insight into why this is and she has recommended some great books on this subject - One that sticks in my head is "Don't Shoot the Dog". If you like, I could send it to you when I finish

Don't take this the wrong way, but, dogs are not GOING to be destuctive, the only reason they are is out of bordom or they think it is fun because they have nothing better to do. And I know you are really trying to do everything with him :) But I just had to disagree with that :p

I agree with Showpug, And NB would be a good choise too, you can get it at Petsmart. Or Timberwolf, they are doing free shipping on all there foods online ;)

Yup, NB is sold at Petsmart for cheap I think. But be carefull with that food, I have heard some nasty reports with this food. :(

And Timberwolf, is from what I have heard, doing free chipping on ALLL orders.

Wow, that's incredible! Herschel is an incredibly active 20lb terrier mix (10 months old) and he only gets 2/3 of a cup twice/day. You're feeding over twice as much!!

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, it's just interesting.

Well her dog is also suppose to be larger at maturity as well, I believe. Anyway feeding guidelines on the bag are just that...guidelines! Holly is fed under what the Timberwolf bag says because she gets runny poop if fed what the bag reccomends. It all depends on the dog and maybe her dog is fed more but as long as it's not getting fat or having bad poop that's all that matters as long as he's developing properly.

I would change your kibble as quick as possible. A couple months ago I was out to dinner with a dog nutritionist and he told us that Pedigree dog kibble is the equivelant to low-grade cow feed!!!! Because its such poor quality it will even start killing a dog from the inside out!!!

You can't buy NB at Petsmart, only at Petco.

There really isn't anything wrong with NB as a food. A lot of dogs do very well on it. I know mine did and her coat was amazing. I think the big issue with Natural Balance is their lack of customer service and caring attitude towards their customers when they have a problem with their food.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced food then consider Canidae. Timberwolf is convenient because of the shipping but if your parents are used to Pedigree prices they will surely flip at the cost of Timberwolf!

hmmm...The Petsmarts don't carry it around here anyway. I can't find it at Petsmart.com either. Maybe your area is different. :)
