Possible Stroke? Ear Infection? She needs a vet.

If I were you, I would take her to the vet ASAP. In the mean time:
-Does she respond to sounds the same? Maybe you could rule out an inner ear infection to see if her auditory system is still up to par.

Unless you're seeing other symptoms, I'm going to say that a cerebellar tumor is unlikely. (I work with human neuroscience, so I may not be the best source of information)

The auditory and vestibular higher centers are amazingly plastic. Your dog's brain might adapt to the the head tilt and fix it within a few days.

I've never had a dog do that. But it sounds kind of serious to me. I would take her to your vet as soon as you can. I live in Kansas and I know when the temp drops and the wind is blowing like it does it is bitter cold and has to be rough for outside dogs. I would like to know what your vet says it is.

Thank you for the link. That sounds like that is what Emily's problem is, except not to the extremes of hand feeding or drinking issues. She eats and drinks fine.

UPDATE:
Bad news about the vet. He is out of town [S. Dakota]. He'll get back on Wednesday. My dad told him about her head being tilted, and the vet responded with, "It sounds like an ear infection. I'll be back on Wednesday, but if anything happens, or if she gets worse, then take her to the emergency vet clinic."

Sounds like I will get to wait a few more days...

On a POSITIVE note, Emily's balance seems to be better, but she is still tilting her head. I'm hoping that, like Herschel said, her head tilting will go away in the next couple days. Ifnot, she'll see the vet on Wednesday or Thursday.

wow really?? a lot of people from oklahoma don't know where it is so i usually say something like... i live in tulsa or owasso or claremore. you really know your towns! lord knows i don't lol.

oh hey but i heard we might be getting some more precipitation next week but they're not sure yet. we'll hope for the not. luckily it'll be warm so we don't have to worry about the ice again. my roads still horrible!!

She still hasn't gone to the vet yet. At least my Dad tried to get ahold of him, he drove by the vet's house to see if he was home yet. He wasn't. So hopefully the vet will get back to Edmond tomorrow, so we can take her then.

I'm extremely worried right now... at 8:00 tonight it was 15 degrees outside, and it is MUCH colder now. The windchill is about 0 [I'm guessing on that]. I can't believe they are out in this weather. Pray they don't freeze to death.

Oh my goodness... So hard for you to love your dogs so much and see them treated this way by your parents. Honestly, I wonder if the dogs wouldn't be better off in another home. I know that would be tragic for you, but if they could live out their days in a nice comfy home, it could be worth it... Perhaps you could convince your parents to give them up! Of course, never to a shelter. You would have to find the good homes yourself.

Anyway, please keep us posted. I feel so bad for your dog...

I'm sorry but this post really angered me. I don't appreciate it. I never said that my parents didn't like my dogs. They are not going to be placed with another family... that is completely and totally ridiculous. My dogs are extremely attached to me, and they would MUCH RATHER BE OUTSIDE than inside a house. No one is at home during the day. Two of the dogs are hunting dogs, and they enjoy the outdoors-- chasing birds/squirrels. And they LOVE to run. Only people who have owned english setters that are bred for hunting understand that there is no exaggeration when they hear, “they run all day long”. You rarely see Abby, my english setter, simply laying down or sitting. [And please don’t say she has a disorder haha] I believe that this just got blown up out of proportion. I will not blame this on anyone... I probably had some impact on this myself.

Let me describe the dog house to you that they live in... It's not like a simple crate or wal-mart bought one. It is on a concrete slab with hay inside. The walls are doubled with housing insulation between them. It has two bedrooms, therefore they can lay and stretch out comfortably. The height is tall enough for them to walk and even jump a bit. The roof has shingles on it just like my house does. It is practically a "mini house"; My dad and I built it and thought the plans through thoroughly for a few days to make it perfect for them.

My entire family loves all of the dogs. I go out and play with them everyday, and the rest of my family does too. I know that they would never want to live anywhere else.

I AM NOT GIVING AWAY MY DOGS!

And please know that I am not angry with you, but I believe that your reply was a bit drastic.

I will not be posting in this thread any longer. Thank you for all of your helpful comments relating to Emily's health. I enjoyed getting to know everyone a little better, since I am somewhat of a newbie.

Sorry! You sounded extremely upset that they were out in the cold, and I assumed from what you had said so far, that you really were afraid for their lives. You said, "Pray they don't freeze to death!", and that you were "extremely worried". I took that literally, and figured if they were in danger of freezing to death, they should be rehomed. Now from what you say it doesn't sound like they are in danger of dying. I, personally, would never keep dogs outside, but it sounds like you'd rather have it that way than not at all. Please don't blame me for taking seriously what you said so dramatically...

For those of you who have kept up with this situation, I thought that after our vet visit about an hour ago I would tell you all the results. She has glaucoma in one eye and possibly a deep ear infection. The vet gave her an antibiotic shot, a steroid shot, and a 10 days worth of antibiotic capsules. If she is still tilting her head in 7-10 days, she will go back for an additional shot.

Thanks for letting us know . I think if you had posted about their house , before your comment that you hoped they didn't freeze to death , you wouldn't have gotten any slack here . I personally saw them in a penned area out in the cold .

I'm glad to hear that it's nothing more serious. I know how worried a person can be when they know the pet they love so much is ill and they don't know what to do to help it. A lot of pets in the Kansas-Oklahoma area are outside dogs, especially in rural areas and they don't seem to suffer from the extremes. I'm sure there are exceptions but it sounds like you have prepared a very good outdoor home for your pets and that you love them a lot. Just keep loving them.
