I have a beautiful hamster from hell. His teeth are at least a 1/4 inch long...probably MORE!
and yes he has used his powerful jaws to sink all of the 1/4 inch into my fingers. He just loves it when I bleed.

On the other hand I have had quite a few other rodents and they were all very friendly and liked attention.....

When hamster from hell expires I am going to get two rats. I already have a breeder in mind......and I love the fact that they usually enjoy some sort of attention. They seem very smart and trainable.

What are they like to own?
They have very diverse personalities, some can be really cuddly and human oriented, while others are more solitary and would rather jump all over you than be held (Balou is the latter). You have to be quite careful about what you let themhave because they are allergic to quite a few different things. But overall, they are really fun as long as you have the time to get them out of their cage and play with them. I have Balou out for at least an hour a night to run around my room.

What kind of cage do they need??
BIG! lol The bigger the better, they are very active. The minimum cage size is usually set a 2'x2' . If you go here, I have the Townhome.

I have two gerbils named Lilac and Lavender, but Lavender lost her tail to my cat so now they have a barrier around their cage. They are my fourth and fifth gerbils. My others passed on. They were Oatmeal, Ruby and Ginger

I've had multiple Syrian hamsters- Jewel, Juniper, Jasmine (male), Jake, Jellybean, and James...

Now we have a 3 year old female chinchilla named Scout. We owned a male named Smokie, who sadly died prematurely at 2 years.

One thing about chins that most people forget is that they live a LONG time. They're not like your usual rodent. One friend of mine has a 9 year old black velvet chin and one other one has an 18 year old standard. It's not a short commitment by any means.

Also, most people don't realize how many colors chins come in. I take Scout to the vet and the pet store (when we go to the vet) to get supplies, and no one knows what she is. Apparently the fact that chins come in white confuses people and everyone thinks she's a rabbit or a guinea pig.
