I think I have gotten too comfortable with my well behaved two. Tucker has never once ran out of the yard ever. Actually neither has Maggie but we wanted to take it slow before we actually let her off leash. Both have a good recall out doors. They only time Tucker hadent was when he would play with the neighbors Boston Terrier Buster (the one who bit my nephew). But we share a driveway and we sort of share a yard so he really wasent too bad.
But when we're out front they NEVER have ever left the yard. And neither one has ever ignored being called back. So we were out there this evening letting them go outside and do their "thing" lol. Well my neighbor to the left of me have four dogs. Actually I thought it was three because I used to walk his two boxers and american bull dog for him. But for the past couple days a little Mexican Hairless pup has been out on a tie run every once in awhile out front. Which has been pure torture for Tucker especially. He would stand at on the rail road tyes and look and bark at the pup. But I always told him to stay and he always listened.
Well not tonight . So im out there with them and Tucker all of a sudden decides to ignore me completely and goes running over to their yard. Well Tucker is still not neutered (this is happening in December) so im just never positive how he will react. He's not dog aggressive but I am just always nervous when he meets tiny dogs. Though he has never bitten or attacked he does warning growl to other non neutered males. So im calling for him and calling for him and he's completely ignoring me . I know at this point he is fine with the pup cause all their doing is sniffing and wagging their tails. But still im angry because well he should have listened. So I put Maggiemay in the house (good girl stayed in the yard the whole time YAY training has paid off). And so I go to get Tucker and put him on time out for behaving so badly.
So I walk over in my socks no less to get him. And of course right when I walk over there Tucker bolts back into our yard and into the back. At this point im sure the whole neighborhood can hear me calling him the best I can with my scratchy voice and choking cause im still sick!!! And where is Tucker? In our other neighbors yard looking about to thrown down with Buster the Boston Terrier. Buster had attacked Tucker as a puppy and their relationship has always been wishy washy. And Buster isn't exactly stable in the head and can be both Human and dog aggressive. So I am not dumb enough to physically go over there and grab Tucker by the collar and bring him back. I know I have a chance of Buster biting me. So I call him and eventually he comes back into our yard. He then stands at the bottom of the steps looking up at me with those big cow eyes. He knows he's in trouble and he knows that he is in for a punishment and he knows that im not happy. And so when I go to grab him and runs back into our yard and stands there. Which gets him a longer time out because he would not come at all.
So right now Tucker is in his crate on time out while Maggiemay gets to run around and play. I am so disappointed him because he has never EVER done something like this before. Maybe its because he isn't neutered and his hormones are everywhere. I don't know. What I do know is he is going to go on the tie out run for the next week or so whenever they go outside. Or be on his leash. Im just glad he didn't run off farther or into the street.
