You are right! I am very sorry. I went back through the process of looking all the info. up!

There is an article on DOG HYBRIDS AND CROSSBREEDS if anyone is interested in it. http://en.widipedia.org/wiki

As for my dogs papers, it is the Canine Hybrid Club, the breeder told me wrong, and I looked up the papers. So in saying, again, I apologize. I do think that no matter if it is AKC or not, it still deserves all the love and it is noones business what another pays! All the breed associations, to me, are for is for breeders to put a paper with the dog so someone else can use the dog they bought to breed!

I am not a breeder, nor do I want to ever be. I love my furry little person-Tyler aka Tyty!! Better than any Full blood AKC or any other registered pup! I would pay all I could all over again for him!!!
No problem! We all make mistakes. Tyler is ADORABLE! I have a Silky/Yorkie, Lucy, and I love her to death!! :D Mixes are just as worthy of love, as fullblooded dogs. Believe me, I have a Yorkie who has over 80 champions in her bloodline, AKC registered, etc, (I'm planning on showing her) and I love, and treat her just the same as I do my Silky/Yorkie mix. Anything Dixie does or gets, Lucy does too. (Except for grooming.) We keep Lucy in a 'Puppy Cut' and Dixie has long hair. :D Good luck with Tyler, he's a cutie pie! ;)

As long as people fork over the money instead of laughing at the ridiculous -ness (is that a word?) of it all, they will keep doing experiments on our best friends, and selling them to people dumb enough to buy them. Two different breed of dogs might look and sound cute, but the reality might not be so great. And as always....the dogs have no choice of who owns them, or what they choose to do to them for money.

I'm sorry that link didn't work for me....it sent me to a page for wikipedia, but not for an article about dogs. :(

About being pure bred vs mixed or AKC vs. Not, your right.....they do deserve a loving home. :) I said that in one of my previous posts, as I'm a big big fan of rescueing dogs (mixes or pure) from shelters, rescues, etc. They are just as good as the pure bred. I was just trying to tell you that buying from a "breeder" who breeds mixes just gives them more reasons to keep breeding. Producing more and more unhealthy puppies that aren't all going to find a home.

I volunteer at a shelter here and I see too many dogs come in from owners breeding these gals till they are no use to them and just dumping them. It's really sad to see. Then the mixes that are the new "fad" start coming in one after the others...most with medical issuse, some with nothing wrong, just stupid owners. It's sad and I wish people would be more responsable! Then of course not all of them get adopted and are PTS. :(

It's just sad and I wish more people would adopt from shelters or rescues then go to these "breeders" who only care for the money. I know not all people who buy from these people are idiots....most aren't. :) Most are just not informed that what's happening. THey just see their darling dog and wants to take care of them like they should. And that's wonderful! I do wish you and your pup the best of a long long life together.

I beg to differ! Cockalier's are AKC recognized, and are great pets. I have one and he is just awesome. Tyler is the best dog I have ever owned. The original Cavailer King Charles Cocker Spaniels cost anywhere from $800 to $1600. The Cocker Spaniel breeds Cost from $350 to $800. These two breeds have no more health problems than any other animal. The Cockalier breed are great with children and other pets, they are very smart, quick to learn, non aggressive, sporting, inside or outside pets, AKC recognized (registeration),very loving and protective of their family. I would pay whatever for one. It would be the same as going and buying a big screen tv, you can enjoy both. Some people pay for animals some for tv's or a vacation that can only be enjoyed while on vacation. I must say, at least with an animal, they can be very therapeutic! So maybe the person who paid $800 was not so crazy or whatever you all have said negatively, as for my opinion, she is a wonderful person to buy such a wonderful breed of animal.
AND FOR THOSE WHO CALL THEM MUTS, A MUT IS AN ANIMAL THAT IS MIXED WITH UNKNOWN BREEDS. A MUT IS A DOG THAT HAS BEEN BRED WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT BREEDS, AND A MUT IS NOT AKC RECOGNIZED!
Wow this was an old thread

My friend has one, and it's a very cute dog with a great personality. She did get her from a breeder, but the parents were health tested and she paid a reasonable price. I dunno though, why not just get a cocker or a cavalier?

The site should have taken you straight to it, if not then when you get to wikipedia you can type in hybrid dogs or cockalier.

My dog has no health problems due to him being a Hybrid. He is very healthy, beautiful, and flawless ( or at least that is what two different vet clinics told me.). I do not believe in breeding dogs until they are of no use, but however, if there were no breeders, then there would be no dogs (pure or mixed) and there has always been a problem overpopulation at shelters, that is irresponsibility of the person who previously had it. I love my dog and he is wonderful.:D

I don't understand what you mean when you say the bolded part. What are you talking about it's the irresponsability of the person who previously had it? What is "it" you are refering to?

I think the overpopulation is due to irresponsable dog owners and so called "breeders". When I go into our shelter there has recently been a large number of "poos" dropped off. A few have medical issues, ranging from very bad hips/elbows in a puppy to a thyroid problem to skin issues, and some are healthy and loving. These "-poos" inclued "labradoodles" "Goldendoodles", "schnoodles", "Cockapoos", and "yorkiepoos" as well as a few others designer mutts. Just because they are a mix of two or more breeds don't make them healthy, they can and do still get the health problems related to their breeds. It's just like any other mutt, these designer dogs are no different then the dogs in these shelters being killed every day, only difference is people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for them and to help let their "breeder" to continue to produce more mixes while those at shelters are often not even thought of.

I have nothing against getting a dog from a breeder, and I never wnat to see RESPONSIBLE breeders die out! never! That would mean the end of dogs. What I want is those irresponsable BYB and puppy mills die out, that would be awesome! A day that there are only dogs produced when there are people who can take care of them and want them instead of hundreds of unwanted dogs at shelters dieing.
