Both my dogs got pregnant a while back. My golden retriever had 5 puppies but my other (mixedbreed) hat 13 :yikes: (only 11 made it) So we had 16 little puppies running around the house. It was a nice experience, but we are all glad its over :hail:

So, about the 13 puppies: is this normal, we thought its an awfull lot of babies for one mom

Anything is normal in the dog world. Dogos and or the mastiff breeds have been known to have as many as 18 dogs. It all depends on how many were fertilized.

Question for you. Why did you breed the dogs in the first place?

Im assuming this is a accident i hope you spayed them ?

My breed has 5-10 pups and some times you get still borns

I had one dog with 6 pups and the other with 8 the 6 pups were easy on the mom the 8 i needed to double up on the food for her it drained her took 6 months to recover.

All my pups were purebred spoken for before bred dogs.
I see no reason to have mutts when so many mutts are dying each day..

So i hope you spayed and neutered the mutts before they left for new homes...

dogs can have 2 they can have 15, they can have them all by the same sire or different ones. Depending on what sized dog you have, i'd say anywhere from 6-12 is about normal for a medium to larger sized dog.

Hi dogs are a very important part of our lives. That is a given. But mind you when we all know how many dogs end up deing and or going to abusive homes then we often question the reason behind the madness.

Now this does not mean that we are judging you. We are just concerned why you did? The happy thing is you did right by the dogs and had them fixed

Well first allowing a dog to go in heat each time increases her chances for many cancers and infections...Not to mention many who die giving birth.

Mutts are put to sleep every day all over the world. Since they do not have breed specific rescue groups who specialize in one breed.

So creating them adds to a pet over population :(

If you add one litter for each of your dogs pups and do the math you in affect created 10,000 dogs if all of them belive " why should i not let my dog have pups" it was your decision NOT hers.

I am glad you spayed her but i hope you dont pass on that novice opinion of " letting dogs have pups" .

Unless you intend on takling back every dog you bred and ever dog they breed?

If you create a life you are in charge of it and as in humans you dont turn your grandkids away....from the door either..

these are life facts not judgments we are not judged by our mistakes but how we handle them

It was NOT my decision to have pups, it just happend oke. And I know a lot of dogs get abused and all, but how do they end up in these homes? Is it not the people abusing the animals who decide to have a pet? If mr.Lunatic wants a dog he can get a dog, theres nothing any of us can do about that...
How about all the human kids that get abused? Should we also be fixed...

Well, I know it's a little radical but I certainly believe sex offenders should be castrated!

I think what people are trying to get at is that you should be a little prudent because there already is a serious overpopulation of mixed breed dogs out there, overflowing shelters and being put to sleep everyday because there are no homes for them.
