I'm the absolute worst about getting up in the morning. I constantly miss my alarm and oversleep. It has been getting worse. Anyone have any suggestions?

I never had this problem until I had mono. After that I was sleeping through my alarms like crazy and I had the worst time getting up in the morning, I was late for work several times and I'd NEVER had that problem before. I had multiple alarm clocks and my phone on vibrate/alarm by my pillow and I'd still sleep through them  The vibrating helped - but my brother would come in and startle me awake because it irritated him :p lol

I made sure I was getting enough sleep, but not too much sleep either! Actually, I think I read recently that 7 hours is the new recommended time? I was getting more than 7 (more like 10, and I get that I was sick but it lasted for months and it as terrible)and that wasn't good either. I started drinking more water, too. I'm not sure why it was recommended to me originally but its hard to subconsciously ignore an alarm when your bladder wants relieved, too :rofl1:

What helped the most though is I literally used the clicker and trained Maddie to "alert" me when my alarm went off. I'm pretty sure I got the idea from someone on here and I based it off of some tips I read online for hearing alert dogs. And not just alert me and be done with it, but to alert m until I GOT UP out of bed and rewarded her. I practiced and I did it enough, and she nailed it to where she as **** persistent and I actually had to get up consistently in the morning  lol

I'm much better now, thank goodness because she's deaf now and can't help me :rofl1:

Anyway, just some ideas. Also I wanted to add almost like a little disclaimer - I'm not sure if you're just not sleeping well or what your situation is :( but if you feel it could be health/medical related, like maybe sleep apnea or anything, you should get that checked out ;)

It is normally linked to my depression, but I've been feeling pretty good lately and actually sleeping decent. I set 5 alarms on three different devises and will still sleep through them.

I've thought about task training one of the dogs, but I don't want to hate them. May have to though!

Task training one of the dogs is a very good idea!! I've had issues sleeping and waking up for a loooong time, and my last dog trained herself to bark until I'd wake up. I keep trying to train Roxie to do the same, but she loves sleeping in just as much as I do, lol.

Are you going to sleep/getting up at the same time every day? It can really throw you off if you're varying wake up time by more than an hour. I am the best at sleeping through alarms too. I do recommend drinking a ton of water before you go to bed.

I don't sleep through alarms, but I do hit snooze a TON. Getting a 'daylight' alarm clock that gradually brightened prior to the alarm going off really helped in the winter and for the early mornings before light in the summer. :)

Do you shut them off and go back to sleep, or just keep sleeping as they beep?

I just have to force myself to get UP the second my alarm goes off. No hitting snooze or shutting it off. The alarm goes off, I'm out of the bed. Otherwise I will fade in and out and it will be an hour later.

I did love my lighted clock when I had one, but I'm really sensitive to light (I can't sleep with any light in the room and have blackout shades). If you can sleep through sunrise, I'm not sure it would be any more useful than noise.

How about one of these guys? The concept cracks me up!

I hear ya, sister!

I don't sleep through alarms--but I do push snooze 5000 times. I have to sleep light enough to answer the work phones through the night, so we sleep with a little lamp on (which is awful & I hate it), so I attribute not popping out of bed in the morning with poor sleep overall.

Task training is a GREAT idea!!!!--but I would totally KILL Crossbone if he woke me up. Sometimes DH tries to get me to get out of bed and I'm just mean & snappy. I wouldn't subject Crossy to that on purpose :p

My parents used to have the loudest, most ridiculous alarm clocks (3 of them) that they never heard but you could clearly hear through the entire house. I never understood that.

I do like Oko's suggestion of drinking LOTS of water at night -- that is the one thing that'll get me up in the morning!

Like mentioned, as well, try to make your sleeping schedule as regular as possible - and go to bed a bit earlier if you think you aren't getting enough sleep.

My alarm is my phone and its set to a strumming tune that's not to annoying, it's set to go off for a minute, and then snooze automatically until turned off.

I am slow to get up, but once I am up for about five minutes I am ready to go.

I am really bad about waking up... and I know it's kept me from seriously applying to jobs that have a start time prior to 8AM, and even that is pushing it. I haven't figured out yet how to consistently get up :p. It doesn't matter what kind of sleep I get. I can both sleep through alarms, or get up and shut them off and then flop back into bed and go back to sleep. My laptop does my alarms. And I have a sonic boom one that is loud and has a bed shaker that I put in my pillow...meh. I leave notes on my alarms sometimes warning myself not to get back in bed. :p

I'm trying to cut down on caffeine, I consume a ton during the day, and I'm wondering if that might help... I wonder if I crash hard overnight and then have a hard time waking.

I'm horrible at waking up in the morning, the earlier, the worse it is. Waking up for the first few days of school, isn't pretty,at all.Its a nightmare for me.

I always sleep through the alarms. Or tell myself "Ten more minutes". Which then turns into an hour. It doesn't happen as bad when schools in session, or I have an early shift for work. But it still happens.

I agree with Oko. I know when I have sleeping issues; having a schedule has helped. I haven't tried the water trick before, though.

Yay, for you feeling pretty good. Err... I couldn't say the same about me.

It's due to my Depression too. My energy level has significantly drop since I've been suffering from it,& it's affecting my sleep. I go to sleep late(1,2,& sometimes 3),& usually have issues going to bed. I then have issues getting up.

I should train my cat to wake me up:p ... Wait, they would never happen. But, that would an awesome idea to wake me up. If only. Though, I'd probably hate my cat after awhile.

None. I'm sat in bed and should have got up 30 mins ago. I despise waking up..... My brain doesn't wake easily. I think you either have it or you don't. Seriously.

Not tech savvy, but if you can program your own alarm sound on your phone, I would record a dog or cat winding up to barf. Nothing shoots me out of bed faster than the sound of a cat winding up to barf a hairball somewhere nearby.

If you find it's linked to your depression, you might want to look in to getting a light box that is designed to help people with seasonal affective disorder.

I find that I have trouble waking up when I get too much sleep. My ideal sleep time is about 6-7 hours, and when I get more than that, I feel really groggy and tired all day.

I have a light box. It's ok but for it to be really effective you have to spend time actually staring at the box. The light waves have to enter your eyes to be effective :D

It does help having a light that comes on to wake me though.

I normally set 2 alarms.... I will always struggle I think.

Go to bed earlier. Like, way earlier. Do it gradually if you have to... but if you wake up early naturally, it's much easier (I go to bed at 10pm and I'm up by 6am most days).

I used to be like that, then I got into race horses and getting up at 5 am, sometimes earlier changed that. Live racing means I might not get to bed til 1 am some nights.

Both to the sleeping through/hitting snooze question. Many times I just plain don't recall it going off. Other times I'm so damned exhausted I just keep shutting them off. Setting them away from me doesn't help as I will either just sleep through or turn them off and return to bed. :(

I've been trying to get to bed no later than 11 and normally get up around 730-8 every morning.

It's heck for me to GET to bed at night (ADHD brain ... just can't turn it off sometimes) but once I do, I am out until my alarm goes off at 5 am.

When it goes off I sit up and turn it off, then I sit on the edge of the bed for a fee minutes to wake up a bit. It takes me about 20 min (counting dressing, braiding my hair and brushing my teeth /washing my face) to get ready. By 5:30 am I am at the barn.
