... If you had no other choice but to feed (for whatever reason) any of the "big name" dog foods, like the ones sold at TSC, walmart and the like, Which one would you choose?

We have a pretty excellent supermarket brand here (President's Choice, retails at about 30 bucks for a big bag) that I would feed if needed.

TSC carries a lot of good food, so I would still feed CORE!

As far as Walmart food, Rachel Ray has "zero grain" or something like that. I'd feed that over Iams or Purina. If I had access to a Costco, I'd feed natures domain.

Well, 4Health, Diamond and ProPlan are all sold at TSC...so...one of those. Lol

As for Walmart brands? I've actually been impressed with what I've seen of the Rachel Ray food. I'd give that a shot. My fall back would probably be a particular Iams or Purina One formula.

Our TSC carried Merrick and Earthborne now too, so there's that.

Honestly? I'd feed raw if there was nothing quality. Loophole!

Yep this, I have fed chicken and hamburger from the grocery store before I would do it again, lol. If it was a matter of cost I don't know, probably Actr1m sweet potatoe and duck, my Shiba did quite well on it when I couldn't get him to eat other stuff.

Probably Pro Plan? Not really familiar with grocery store brands.

But I have 2 dogs on Costco food and 1 on Diamond (well I guess technically it's all Diamond lol) so there's that.

If I had to go to Walmart or something, the Rachel ray or Natural Life. Otherwise ProPlan, 4Health/Diamond Naturals, etc

I fed from a grocery store for years....but yeah, I did raw.

If we are talking kibble only...and including costco and feed stores I would likely go with something along the lines of natures domain or TOTW.

I would look for the one that has chicken byproduct meal or poultry byproduct meal list as the first ingredient. They are the ones that would contain the most animal source protein. Then from there I would look for the products containing the LEAST amount of plant matter. After that I would probably head over to the vitamin section and look for a natural fish oil supplement to add into the food. Next I would head over to the meat department and get some hamburger meat with highest fat content to mix in with the food making it anywhere from 5-10% of the mix.
