I like Beezers for Ibizan because I always overthink it and spell it wrong.
Haha YES!! This is me. I always end up wanting to spell it "Ibhizan" or "Ibizhan" because apparently, I'm convinced there's an "h" in there somewhere. Sometimes if I'm feeling extra adventurous, I add in an extra "i", too. "Ibhizian" looks about right :p

Yes pibble sounds like baby talk to me too. It drives me nuts.

I don't like border for border collie either. No real reason, it's just annoying to me. Dobbies also annoys me.

Pitbull drives me nuts, especially when paired with a nose colour. I always reply "oh well this is my brindle and white shih tzu". It usually confuses them pretty good.
I have the rare black-nosed papillons. :rofl1:

YES! I'm always trying to jam 15 more letters in the name than actually are there. And an 'h' and an 'i" are always shoved in the middle somewhere. Obviously the name should be adjusted.

Obviously. I always feel a little cheated when I double check with Google and realize it's just "Ibizan" Hound. And after all that effort to fancy up the name!

Before I met them, I totally thought Ibizans were pronounced I-biz(like business)-han.

Beauceron... I've heard too many different ways lol

I am not ashamed to admit I think of Malinois as Malinoise. I say it all fancy, so it's cool.

Border is bad. It could also be a Border Terrier. German is also bad, shepherd, shorthair, wirehair or longhair?

Mal is bad. Malamute or Malinois? Belgian is good, we can stop pretending that they're separate breeds.

I always use to thought it was pronounced like that,& still do sometimes,as with countless other dog breeds... Plus I'm always needing to look up the right spelling for some dog breeds.

Well I had someone ask me yesterday if Jackson was a Yorkie or a Yorkshire Terrier... LOL, I said, they're the same thing. I think almost every one knows Yorkies as... yorkies, not yorkshire terriers.

I hate writing Shih Tzu x Maltese for my dogs all the time but at the same time don't like referring to them as Malshi because that is not a breed.

Also, hate it when people refer to Dobermans as Dobbies. Dobe is alright as everybody usually knows what you mean.

You know, there's a difference between ignorant/uneducated and being stupid. A lot of people's exposure to different dog breeds (and interest in being exposed to a lot of dog breeds) is pretty minimal.

I wouldn't fault someone for making mistakes in identification or being imprecise about terminology they're not familiar with, which is different than using slang that bugs me.

I call Diesel and yorki/poodle mix, I have had others reply, oh mines a Yorkipoo, then argue that there is a difference.

I guess I don't have an issue with any normal slang for breeds. I don't like "pibble," and I worry about the people who use the term viewing themselves as pit bull advocates, but that's about it. I don't use "pit" or "pittie," but they don't really bother me.

I say "heeler" and have never known that people had an issue with it until this thread. I was introduced to the breed in Arkansas, so maybe that's why. But a lot of people around here say it. I regularly have to tell co-workers that the "heeler" someone wants a grooming quote on is in the computer as an Australian Cattle Dog.

So normal nicknames... are what they are, I guess. I mostly just have issues with people who can't say or write the kind of dog they have (Shiatsu, Lopso Apsa, Rockwilder).

This. I work festivals sometimes with a lady who has "shizitzus." I can't even spell that out. lol Shi - zit - zoos. I constantly say it correctly hoping that she'll realize she's wrong but I don't want to come off as rude. "Oh, you have a shih tzu? My dog is half shih tzu!"

I have a friend who has a beauceron and she pronounces the name "boo - cer - on." Bugs the crap out of me. lol
