Agility training

So I've tried understanding 2x2s for over a year now, and for some reason it just never made sense. My coworkers would try to explain, show, etc and I felt like an idiot because there were so many aspects that made no sense.
GUESS WHAT I LEARNED LAST NIGHT?
I now have three sets of 2x2s to get Recon going on weaves again, and he did pretty well last night during training, for being a little confused and freaked out, as to why were practicing agility at midnight with strangers and dogs barking in his car. Plus his loud voice.
For being as stressed as he was he engaged well with myself and my friend, I figured out how to get some weaves accomplished, got taught how to roll a disc, and built a lot more drive in discs for Recon! It was a very awesome, impromptu training session.

For being as stressed as he was he engaged well with myself and my friend, I figured out how to get some weaves accomplished, got taught how to roll a disc, and built a lot more drive in discs for Recon! It was a very awesome, impromptu training session.
JWW felt worse than it was! I think mainly because the first thing I did after sticking Mimi in the tunnel was try to take out the jump stanchion. Smooth, but didn't screw her up at all. Anyway, the rest of the run went well, missed the weave entry the first time (not enough deceleration on my part) but she got it the second time. Q'd with 100 points and 1st place!
Standard.. left a little to be desired but we had fun! Nailed the first 5 obstacles, then she spotted the broad jump and decided that weird thing needed investigating, by the time I got her back she'd passed the point of where she needed to be to get the next jump so we got a refusal. Got her back over that and she nailed her weave entry (first goal achieved!). Dog walk was fine, but I screwed up the tunnel by pulling her off of it before she'd committed. Second refusal, oops. Got the tunnel, nailed the teeter (second goal!) and stuck to the table (third goal! She flies off sometimes). Next the broad jump, didn't launch ramp off of it (fourth goal, yay!). Read my handling well, didn't suck to the a-frame and got the chute. Came out a little far to the left and pulled too close to me, missing the panel jump (aww, missed that goal. That was the first time she'd seen a panel, though, so I think it threw her off). Tried again and got the panel jump. A-frame.. not sure what happened. She started up it and promptly bailed off to the right. NEVER had that problem training, the only thing on that side was the arena wall, so who knows there. Got the last sequence.
Overall, I'm thrilled. She had a good time, we achieved some goals, and I saw the CUTEST little black tri puppy who has a name that starts with "L".
Tomorrow's goals include smoother handling on my part, getting the weaves the first time in our jumpers run, getting the panel jump the first time, and not bailing off the a-frame!

I think I'm going to really enjoy them too, now that I have a full understanding and good weaves to use! Recon was picking it up quick since he did already have weave experience, and it was cool watching his dogs work them too.
Bummer! I was hoping to swap first trial stories!

Gusto just blew me away in the seminar. I'm so bummed I didn't bring anything to tape with. When I saw the first course laid out, I was frantically texting my training friends that this was going to be way over Gusto's head (I've barely introduced backsides). And he just put on his Grown Up Dog hat and kept working with me the whole time, not quitting, and good heavens, even getting most of the skills down pat! I'm starting to think that footing is one of his biggest stressors. He can go into really tough situations, with skills that are hard for him, and rock the world when the footing is good. When he worries about the footing, even a novice course is too much for him to handle. It's interesting, something I need to watch more.
And I hate 2 x 2s I say that with the full understanding that it isn't the method, it is me and the fact that it just doesn't compute for me.

Feist met a tunnel for the first time today, we stumbled across one at a dog park. She loved it, I was pretty impressed considering it was black. You couldn't have paid me to run through it.
