Dude on dating website 'liked' me. He has a GSP and a Plott and is apparently a vet. He's also 11 years older... :/ Is it bad that I'm thinking about how crazy a house of 5 dogs would be?
I don't think that any of those things are necessarily bad :)

It's really not that bad. ;)
LOL I don't think it would be... and vet care would be nice... I mean, I'm currently single with two, and a third planned in a year... and plans to eventually have another larger sighthound (Azawakh want!). I suppose someone with two dogs already would understand? xD

He has a plott, he is clearly a keeper. Also he is used to crazy so five dogs will probably not phase him.

*does quick math in head* "This PVC will make three jumps!"

Reality: PVC makes one jump.

Also...PVC is cheap, until you start buying a ton of it. Per my instructor I will need 5-6 jumps for the stuff we are starting at my next lesson. Which means I need to order more jump cups, more 4 ways, and much more PVC.

Thank goodness I should be graduated and making actual money by the time we start actively competing.
Don't forget I still have 3 more in my car!!

An "episode" this weekend really made me think about how much I could tolerate before feeling like I need to say something (to defend myself/my decisions/my dog).

Backstory: a breeder I really admire has started leaving tails on her dogs. First litter, one tailed puppy, second litter half of the puppies kept their tails, third and fourth litters all puppies kept their tails. They are out of an imported dam who kept her tail.

The tailed puppies are starting to make their foray into the conformation ring, because they are nice dogs, who happen to have tails. At a show this weekend, one of the owners was verbally attacked for daring to show a tailed springer. The kicker? This person is a "Rottweiler" person.

The owner of the tailed puppy just didn't engage. I have a pretty long fuse for my temper, but I don't know if I could have done that. Also, just... REALLY?!

I have 3, and need to make 2 more. Are you doing grids?

LOL I am graduated and making actual money and the sports just "need" more stuff! ;)

11 years is not so bad. Last BF was 12 years older and DH is 9. I really didn't and don't notice much of a difference. Until we talk about songs or movies that came out at a time when he was out of high school and I was in middle school hahahahaha

5 dogs is nothing. Really. You get into a routine and it's no big deal. I haven't had less than 4 in a household in many years.

Quite a few people from the megaesophagus group on Facebook had dogs pass away unexpectedly over the past few days. Some were due to underlying issues, but two were completely and 100% unexpected. The dogs went from being "healthy" with very manageable symptoms to bleeding internally basically overnight.

Ugh. :(

*hugs*

Elsie has a really nice heel. The last trial we were at, her nose was on the ground the whole time--she was stressed out because there were so many dogs barking, and instead of looking at them, she was sniffing. Maybe Talon was more stressed than he seemed?
I thought about that, and I'm not sure. He was fine in the beginning for the first 15 minutes and was his normal self and very attentive. Than the lady with the great treats came in late and sat next to us, his nose immediately started sniffing the air towards them. lol

We did an activity in the field and he was attentive, but as soon as that ended he was lost. I'm *somewhat* sure it was the treats, because the lady with the whippet/great treats was in the middle of the field tossing them all over the place. So as soon as we came back to our seats (near the middle of the field) I lost Talon.

But IDK, it's still possible he was overly stressed. He wouldn't do the calming down, massage part, but he doesn't really like that anyways. But I think that ladies treats were just too good smelling compared to his normal treats (his kibble). Maybe I'll have to up his treat value :/

It's the damnedest thing .. I'll be sitting on my laptop and Paris will come over, step on my keyboard trying to give me kisses and BAM Ignition by R. Kelly starts playing. It's happened three times! I don't know what button she's pressing with her paws but it always results in 'now usually I don't do this but uhhh.' It's on my iTunes but not a song I ever really play, so it's not like it's on pause or anything. It's always Ignition! I don't get it. :rofl1:

I know, TAILS! :)

Also, the tailed puppy owners are sticking together. More than one at a show will make it so that the owner isn't singled out at least. Neither puppy won anything, but they also weren't excused from the ring, so that's good.

Our standard mentions tails once, just in the general description of the Springer. The Rottweiler lady apparently tried telling the owner that long tails are a fault. A tail most certainly is not a fault in our breed standard.

It could certainly be a combination of higher value treats and stress! Do you bring just one kind of treat to class?

For him yeah, I usually only bring his kibble. He is *super* food motivated and can be guardy with other unfamiliar dogs, I found bringing higher value treats made him frantic and not able to focus, so I stopped bringing those to any classes. We've been using only kibble treats for his last three sets of classes and this one without any issues at all. Even walking into a new environment with a bunch of dogs, he works really well for kibble.

I'm kind of hoping it was just an off day, but I'll bring some other treats to class next week just in case. Any tips on how to work on not losing him to sniffing if I can't get him back even with the higher value treats?

I can always take him out of the gates for a break, but I almost feel like he get's more stressed out not being able to see what's going on.

Last year at Auggie's vet appointment I refused additional boosters except rabies, since it's legally required. They didn't make a big deal out of it at all, they just had a piece of paper for me to sign stating I was refusing them.

Auggie's annual appointment reminder card came in the mail a month or so ago and it was like "HE'S OVERDUE FOR THESE VACCINES." No, no he's not.

Earlier today I got a voicemail from them "AUGGIE IS OVERDUE ON SEVERAL VACCINES." No. He's NOT. Stop it.

What was the point of me signing that piece of paper if you're just going to ignore it and keep bugging me about it?

And while we're at it, Payton isn't overdue for his neuter, either. Thanks.

Rowan is amazing when I am dealing with anxiety.

When I'm hurt or otherwise upset it freaks him out, but when I am anxious or on the verge of a panic attack, it's like helping me out is a job he takes very seriously. I always sit down and stretch out on my bed to breathe, and he comes up and lies either right against me, or partially on me. Petting him is a big part of what usually brings me back down. I think part of it is the comfort of something rhythmic, and part of it is a sensory thing with his fur. Regardless of why it helps, he stays perfectly still and will not leave me until I tell him that it's okay to get up.

I don't know what I would do without him.
