I just need to make sure to take my metformin every day
Same here...if I take my metformin and my adderall I don't even feel like eating, and when I do eat it's about half or less of what I'd usually eat unmedicated. But when I stop or forget, it's right back to how it used to be. Plus they both seem to make me lose weight regardless of food or exercise, so eating healthy and exercising on top of it only makes it go faster.

Usually I can put back a 12" sub and want more, but last night I could barely make myself eat half. Plus I generally feel better and am more apt to exercise when I take my meds like I'm supposed to.

Laur, do you take it once a day or twice a day? I fail miserable at taking it when I'm supposed to do it twice a day, but if I take the extended release once a day, I can take it when I get up and forget about it the rest of the day. Both my meds are once a day and extended release, and that's really the only way I can take them regularly. At this moment my metformin is 2 500mg ER tablets once in the morning, but now that I have insurance again I'm going to go back to one 1000mg tablet (60 of the 500mg ER tabs are $4 without insurance, but 30 of the 1000mg ER tablets are almost $200 :yikes: ). I also have less GI upset when I take it once a day, or at least I can plan for when it'll hit.

Update: So far just 5 lbs lost (though it does look like 5 lbs lost vs just change in the day).

So slooooow going though. So I ramped it up today and starting workout tomorrow (need to shave lmao). I had been doing 2 meals a day low carb and we're trying to go for 3....

I'm really hungry though right about now in the day. It's miserable and it happens every time I try low carb.
It takes a few weeks of very strict to get the body to change. That part does suck :) no getting around it, but once your body becomes more efficient at lipid metabolism, it's much better.

Took a 2 mile hike with the dogs two days ago. Then today I did a cardio/strength workshop inside since we had some NASTY weather.

Hoping to get a run in Saturday!

See I really know nothing about nutrients. Anyone have good tips or links?
I like the article about it on Nerd Fitness - seems long, but it's easy to read.

http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/11/10/healthy-eating/

The biggest thing I did was to simplify. Everything starts from scratch, and I learned to cook and take a little time to prepare my meals. Meats, vegetables, carbs - when I'm in the grocery store, 80% of my groceries come from the fresh fruit/veggie section and the butcher. Cooking from scratch is easier than it seems - it doesn't have to be complicated and you can make enough for leftovers!

Went for a "group run" tonight sponsored by a "local" running shop (about 30 minutes away from home). Great time. We went 4 miles in a soaking rain and they let us sample Zensah leg sleeves for the run and gave us all free green tshirts (St. Paddy's Day theme). Free beer and corned beef and cabbage was offered in the store afterward. I didn't partake, but hung around and chatted a bit. I'm in the orange shorts and no hair middle/right Glad to be back out on the road. Been a very long winter.

This has helped me a lot, too. Plus, once you get the hang of it... It tastes infinitely better.

There is a CrossFit opening right around the corner from my work/bank. I can't say I'm not tempted to at least check it out... I've been reading a lot of reviews and several people have been happy with the system.

I know FG did CrossFit. Anyone else have any experiences with it?

My nutrition has greatly improved the past week. I've been eating a lot more veggies. We always eat a lot of lean meat, so there wasn't much change there. Prepping more meals, eating out significantly less.

Did a workout last night indoors.. just a home DVD with Jillian Michaels. Went okay.. she had some things that were hard for my uncoordinated self to follow but we made it through and definitely got a good mix of cardio/strength and got my heart rate up. I've been successfully off pop for a just under a week now (I splurged last weekend and had 2 at the horse expo). Drinking about 40 ounces of water a day. Feeling like I should be focusing more on running as 5K's are what I'm training for atm, but at the same time the variety is probably good for me and any fitness activity will help! BETTER THAN THE COUCH!

So, there's a Planet Fitness opening super close to my apartment building. And it's $10 a month. I can afford $10 a month. I'm also terrified to go to the gym, because I have no idea what I'm doing.

I can handle the cardio on my own with running/cycling, but the more I read, the more everyone says that weights are huge for getting fit/weight loss. But again, I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I'M DOING AROUND WEIGHTS!

Halp?

I'm looking for relatively easy to manage weight routines. Nothing that needs a spotter. Nothing that needs perfect form.

Do it. I LOVE Planet Fitness. I was terrifed of the gym, too, but this is totally different. AND they'll show you how to use all the things if you want.

There's also pizza once a week and bagels once a week, but not when I go :p Pizza is the first Monday of the month (I workout in the morning on Mondays) and bagels is the second Tuesday of the month (I workout in the evening on Tuesdays).

They also have the NICEST showers ever. No massive naked shower parties. Private, individual showers.

I wish they had lockers you could rent long-term so I could leave my gym stuff there, but alas, they don't. But for $10 a month I can live with that.

The annoying part is that so many people will tell you Planet Fitness is stupid, not a real gym, etc. Except those assholes are the reason people need a place like Planet Fitness in the first place. Everyone is super nice at the one I go to. Sure beats the crap out of the "real gym" that costs an arm and a leg to join, and is also owned by the same people who own a local overpriced shitty fast food place.

Well, that kind of makes me want to go more. My friend and I are going to go check it out on Thursday :D I'm super excited!

Planet Fitness as a chain is notorious for not wanting people to use their free weights. They have a NO DEADLIFTS policy and anything they view as "powerlifting" is banned. If you make any grunting sounds when you lift your weights you'll get kicked out. They helpfully suggest you use machines instead of free weights. I have no idea why they even have free weights.
I wouldn't join one.
That apparently makes me an asshole.

I didn't know that. That's so... odd. I don't use the free weights at my gym because I'm intimidated (plus I guess I'm terrified to lift really heavy stuff on my back, so I just use my adjustable dumbbells at home), but it's really so much better than machines, as it works your whole body instead of just whatever you're working on. To each their own I guess. My gym is nice though, even if they do have free weights (I only go for the treadmill when it's nasty out and the free babysitting when school is off).

Anyway, as for me... in the year I was away from these boards I've lost 78 lbs, and I'm 6 lbs away from my goal now. I just wish I didn't have a sharpei of a belly because of all the loose skin.

I read this and looked into it more. And yeah, it might not be the best gym ever, but for $10 a month and a beginner like me, something is better than nothing, right?! Even if it is on evil resistance machines :p

I feel like, if I end up loving the workouts, and get to the point where I need more, then I can always find another gym. But I can't afford the other gyms in town right now (the YMCA here is $70 a month, no way I can afford $70 a month), and the location (it's right on my way to work) and price are awesome.

I don't think machines are evil exactly (though I really don't like to use them myself and think most people don't need to either.) It's really just the attitude that rubs me the wrong way. I actually find it rather insulting to it's own clients. Don't worry, we'll save you from the terrible powerlifters! And here's some free pizza and Tootsie Rolls to make you feel better about yourself because that's a thing.

To be honest, if I were tight on money, instead of joining PF and having to worry about if they're going to kick me out because they deem me a "lunk" and sound the "lunk alarm" because God forbid my last set is difficult and I make some kind of sound to finish it... I'd do bodyweight workouts at home. You can get crazy strong doing bodyweight workouts, you really can, and you don't need a gym to do them. Also you can do badass things like a handstand push-up with bodyweight training. Is it the same as squatting 200lbs on your back? No, but that doesn't mean it's not super strong or super badass!!

I have no idea why YMCA is so frickin' expensive. Ours here is that expensive too. My private gym is WAY less than that. It's so stupid. Apparently it's a good deal if you have a family because your entire family basically gets to sign up for roughly that amount... but if you're on your own, yeah no. I thought the YMCA was supposed to be affordable. =/

Honestly if a gym was serving pizza and bagels to it's clients it would be a big flag for me to NOT go there. If they want to promote a healthy lifestyle (as a gym should) they most certainly wouldn't be serving those kinds of things.

There's a reason a lot of "real" gyms cost money. It's like the reason a lot of good dog trainers cost a fair bit of money. Continuing education. Trainers and gym owners should be keeping up with what's out there and constantly learning themselves to provide their clients with the best possible product, which isn't cheap. These aren't just people who "like the gym", the people in these "real" gyms as you call them have created a career and invested a lot of time and money and sweat and tears into creating programs that work. If a trainer at a gym is telling you not to use free weights and not to grunt, run far away because they have no idea what they're doing.

Yeah pizza night at the gym would just be a bit weird. Although mine has a café and sell soda so yeah...

$70 for the YMCA is nuts though. I joined mine 2 years ago but frankly it sucked, but it was maybe $40 a month. Now I pay $45 I think but I can actually walk there (3 minute drive), and we get free sessions with trainers and free appointment with the nurse every 3 months (she measures you, gives you your body fat etc). But the babysitting area is great, which was the main selling point for me, and they have classes etc.

But anyway, yes I'd join the $10 gym for sure in your situation... better than nothing. Frankly nobody uses the free weights at mine for some reason (I might give it a shot this Summer... we'll see).

I pay $40/mo for 24Hr Fitness and it works out well. They have a lot of equipment, space for body weight or freestyle exercises, a pool and a billion treadmills/ellipticals. I go on off hours anyway and just out in my earphones and get to sweating. I'm in love with the rowing machine now.

Be really careful about CrossFit. A lot of their programs do not teach proper form. And that can be really, really dangerous. Some places are better than others.

I do $40/mo for 24 Hour Fitness. But, since getting a puppy I've been doing home-based workout plans instead. TRX workouts, bodyweight exercises, Focus T25 workouts, and so on.

Though I'm a blob now because I hurt my chest at work (unrelated recurring injury) so I can't do more than walk around
