So next May, I take my boards and am ready to actually leave Long Island.

The SO and I were talking about renting/buying/etc... it seems we're pretty narrowed down to one area for the next 10 years at least and knowing us... that pretty much means we'll actually stay there until we retire.

So our plan is to buy property and build, we've discussed all our options for buying and this way is actually the most economical for us. We decided to build a garage/apt first since this can be done with just the SO's salary... and then later on when I finish, finish school we'll build the house. We'll likely end up renting at the very beginning, but we're pretty much immediatly going to start looking to purchase property. I actually already have my eye on a piece, I just hope it's still available when we're ready!

I want this style:

But I want it put on this building bc the floorplan/layout pretty much suits us perfectly(the only thing I'm changing is that back porch is going all the way across like the front one does with an entrance from the master bedroom):

Garage Level:

Apartment Level:

Once our house is built, we'll likely rent this apartment out. In my dream world, a postive reinforcement sport dog trainer rents this because of my super awesome fenced in agility ring and we become best friends and she helps me train my dogs in various dog sports. :lol-sign:

Anyway, yes this is all over a year away.... but to say I'm excited is an understatment... hence the I actually have it all planned out now! :p :p :p

With a five-car garage you totally have space to work indoors when the weather sucks too LOL. (is it sad that was my first thought?)

How exciting to build your own home!

I've toyed with a similar idea for the future. That first garage is beautiful!

There are so, SO many ways to approach your living situation. It's fun to dream about them all. LOL. We looked into quite a few directions actually, this one was our most affordable when considering the redundancy of steps in all the plans... So it won. HaHa.

And I just *LOVE* the first building. I love every.single.thing about it.... Except the floor plan. The 2nd was pretty much exactly the floor plan I described to my uncle (builder) who has been helping me figure things out. He is in love with the first building too. I think he got more excited about it than I did. HaHa.

Well, if we can buy the property I have my eye on we'd be in litchfield county on the MA border.

If not, just put a pin where NY/CT/MA meet. We want to be around there.

I found out today though that the property I like is going into foreclosure.... Which peeked the old man's interest... He is addicted to bank auctions and currently has a house for sale that has a potential buyer.

So fingers crossed his house sells, he buys my property and puts my garage up then sells it to us at cost when I'm ready to move. (welcome to my dream world again! HaHa!).

I'm going to be on a farm.... Just not a massive one. LOL. I want a small one. :)

And yeah, the garage idea was the uncles. It was a light bulb moment for me. HaHa. Just make sure building is what you want, it doesn't really save anything and it's a PITA. It just works out well for us, bc of what we want.
