Moving on to other objects. I am not sure how to start fading out the lure. We're still very much in the beginning stages but unsure how to go about starting.
Great work! Yay generalization!

I faded the lure really late. Like, I still lure occasionally know despite having it on verbal. I'd probably wait until you're getting the behaviour readily before worrying much about fading the lure.

Mechanically, I'd fade it the same way you fade any lure. Start using an empty hand, use some tricky slight of hand and reward from the other hand.

I think it's awesome and hilarious that we're going to have a whole forum filled with handstanding dogs soon.

No video, but I finally got Gusto doing the behavior in the barn! It has been a really hard skill for me to move for some reason. He could put his back feet up anywhere, but wouldn't try the handstand outside of my den.

In other weirdness, he now won't put his back feet on anything. Just handstands

I decided to work on this trick this week.

Week 1 work.

I already see I should treat her lower for this.

I should add that now her default is to pick her back leg up on everything. Put away your things in a box? sure then put my back legs in the box! Close the door? Let me put my back feet on the door first!

How would one go about teaching this to an oversized lumbering moose of a Lab puppy?
I don't know that I would train it on a dog that hasn't finished growing yet. I think it is a lot of pressure on the front leg joints. Just my thoughts on it, though. You could certainly start teaching some hind-end awareness though, just teaching him to put his back feet on up a book or board. I wouldn't raise it at all yet, though.

Come to me when she manages to put her back feet on the weave poles. :p

I need to video what I'm getting right now. Gusto's turned all weird about this one. He basically just tucks one hind leg up as tight as he can, and hops on the other one. I'm thinking of going back to using the wall for a while to get him going all the way up again.

On the other hand, I think I could teach a great hind-leg limp with what he's giving me now. But I don't want to break the handstand by working on it right now!

Mia's giving me so many sideways one foot things that I was thinking about switching it to having her lift her back leg on things like she was peeing. But then I thought that would be too confusing to have going on at the same time.

Nice work with Mia! It does look like you need to reward her head a bit lower. Or even lower the sack of books because she's still not completely sure what her criteria is.

I think you're right in only working on one behaviour at a time. If you want to go for a limp, go for it! But put handstand away until he's mastered it and it's on stimulus control. I say go for handstand, of course. :p It sounds like you're on the right track. It sounds to me like you need to backtrack. Or maybe offer up a new foot support like your hand.

E: Sara, you cheater! Awesome though! Post (all of) your video(s)!

Yeah...Webster does this haha. Thankfully he never did it in a trial situation, only if we're standing around and there were weave poles nearby. The people nearby first though he was going to mark the poles and started to protest in dismay, then realized what he was actually doing and were like, "WTF!?!?" lol

Crossbone is doing a variation of this too. He'll pick his right leg up as high as it goes and then lift the other leg off. I've been trying to only reward when he lifts both legs at the same time...but I feel ya!

Here's a video from tonight
