Abrams just lifted his leg for the first time!!!!!!!!!!! :D

(It was because he was trying to pee in the woods and a stick was poking him in the thigh so he cocked his leg up to stop the stick from poking him...but it counts!)
Still counts! Ezra only lifts his leg on two trees in my friend's back yard… this particular friend is THREE hours away. Ezra only pees on two trees three hours away. Male fail.

I should probably not be allowed to use Pet Paint again.

Journey got a rabbit this morning - it ran out from under the deck while she was out, and she nailed it within seconds. Got it away from her before she could eat any of it, though.

Also, Laur, I'm laughing at the "field full of breezes" :)

Started Talon's new training program. We are going to walk 3xweek just around the neighborhood working on focus and his reactivity issues. There are a few spots I know there are dogs that are at least contained, so we will be working on focus mainly around those areas. Than 1X week we will go to someplace more challenging for him (ie petstore, lowes, a "new" park, etc).

Today we started it, he did really good for the first time! We went towards a house with four stone statues of dogs pushed up against a chain link fence. Talon is convinced they are real, if just very quiet, dogs. He was super focused on them at first, but after a few times of rewarding for his focus on me we walked right by them without even a glance at them. :)

Unfortunately it's right next to a semi-busy road so we got to work a lot of sitting and looking at me while cars went by, which he did really good at! We didn't go to the school like planned as two dogs were playing frisbee in one of the fields off leash and Talon was pretty done anyways, so we headed home.

We had to go past a yard that has a very loud, fence running doxie and chihuahua, but they didn't seem to be out. Well, we found out they were in fact out as soon as we got right next to the yard they started barking. Talon didn't freak out, but was very "OMG OMG *whine!! WHINE!!****" as I kept pulling him backwards. We had to halfway down the block before I was able to get his focus back.

The part I'm really proud of is after getting his focus back I was able to keep his focus as we walked past the yard with the other dogs barking! He only lost focus on me one time, but after just two steps back he regained it. I'm so proud of him! This really gives me hope to continue his training! I just wish I hadn't been so anxious about starting this sooner, he could be so good by now lol :p

David took Art as well and Art is just amazing. He didn't react to a single person or the dogs. :)

Mia got bragged on three times today by three different people. I'm a proud mama.

1. A lady in my tricks class who has a pit bull. I was running through Mia's tricks and she said she'd watched Westminster and they'd talked about how smart papillons are. She was amazed by Mia's tricks.

2. My trainer. I forget how the conversation goes but we were hanging out at the lure coursing and I had kind of ragged on Mia (jokingly!). She told me Mia was a fantastic dog and was telling everyone else that they should see how many tricks Mia knows.

3. At the park we were walking on a trail and Summer stepped on Mia's leash right as a big group of people came walking by. Mia's leash was yanked out of my hands. I told her to wait and she stopped and let the people walk past without any glance. I grabbed her leash and a lady in the group said 'Wow, that is one really well behaved dog!'

:D :D :D

She's a good one.

Not only were there multiple Ibizans at the show today (a first!), there was one that was SO COOL. I absolutely loved him. He was a big wire hair who was just having the time of his life. Playing with his handler, super up and cute. I loved him.

Also, Jeromy is sold on Cardigans now. Yessss.

I for some reason decided to let Juno sleep in bed with me last night, and now all day today she has had it in her head that she should be allowed on all the furniture, and that she's not going to lie down unless she is in someones lap.

And she's so hard to say no to.

Ugh. A girl I've known since junior high just posted this on her FB page:

I just will never understand people who buy dogs instead of rescuing one of the 5,000-10,000 dogs that are euthanized in the US each day. If you have bought a "pure bred" dog as a pet (not as a working dog), could you please tell me why? Were you uneducated about the dire situation of homeless animals in this country? Did you just not care?? Seriously, what can we of the rescue community do to persuade you to SAVE A LIFE!? I just struggle to understand why someone would pass up the opportunity to rescue another living soul from death.

I kind of want to say something, but then I think it would be better to roll my eyes and move on. I haven't spoken to her since college (we actually ended up at the same college and major, and were sort of frenemeies). A few other people commented, and she made obnoxious comments to each of them.

Since I just used the word "frenemy", that's probably a sign that I should let it go. :lol-sign: Her moral superiority just makes me want to :wall:

sometimes I take the bait and say something as tactfully as possible.

sometimes I don't. Just depends on my mood. Can't say I wouldn't be thinking about it. If you do, please take screenshots and share. XD

So I took the bait and responded, explaining how I was looking for specific traits in a dog and getting a puppy from a rescue is a total crap shoot as far as energy level, drive, etc etc. She actually agreed with a lot of stuff I said. :rofl1: I was pleasantly surprised. I think her point is that people who want a generic companion who is friendly and good with kids should really look at rescue harder. People who want a dog for sports are fine going to a breeder to get what they want. Not that I necessarily agree (pet people can go to breeders, and sport people can go to rescue), but that's a pretty reasonable point of view compared to what I was expecting.

Cohen hurt her foot somehow today. We went out for a lovely long walk in the woods where she had a blast and was a dream to be with. We came home, she ran around the back yard for a minute, lay down, left the room then came back and... she was limping. I have no idea how it happened. It seems like it's one of her toes that's hurting her but it may be further up her foot. I'm hoping it's a sprain.

The poor thing is trying to sleep, but her foot is in the air, shaking. Each time she relaxes a bit and her foot rests on the ground it jars her awake.

I'll be keeping close tabs on it, but it really upsets me to see her uncomfortable like this. :(

I'm so unbelievably sad. :(

Talon's Reactive Class ends Sunday, but they decided to offer a Reactivity 2 Class, which goes over walking past their triggers and continues to the next part. Talon REALLY needs this class, it's absolutely perfect for him. We've made so much progress in his current class and I love his instructor. BUT they are offering it in the beginning of March (The sunday after his current class ends) so people can just continue on without any delay.

The problem is there is just no possible way I can afford it right now. I could definitely pay for it in the very beginning of April, but no way for March. :( The next time they offer the reactive 1 class isn't until September, so the 2nd part would be October IF they offered it.

I thought about asking them if I could pay in April, but I can't think of a reason they would do that. Than I thought about asking my sister for a loan, but again I don't know if that's going to happen.

It's stupid, I'm just so bummed. :(

I would explain the situation to them and ask if this is a possibility. The worse they can say is no. The classes we used to go to used to make special arrangements for on-going students as long as it was kept confidential and other classmates weren't told. Give it a shot!

This!!

Or, if you have the interest and inherent skill, something amazing could happen like it did for me and they could ask you to assist with some classes to work off class payment. That's how I got my job over a year ago with the training company I work for- I had to swallow my pride and email my trainer to tell her we had to drop out of classes because I couldn't afford to continue at the time. She emailed me back and said "Non-sense, how about a job instead?" and the rest is history!

What do you have to lose?
