I get asked ALL THE TIME how much I spent on a dog when it's a puppy. I've probably been asked about Patton a million times. But when they grow up no one seems to care anymore?

No one thought the $250 for Frag was much, but we spent over $2000 on him in the first year of his life on medical bills, so really he was a $2250 dog! :yikes:

I get asked constantly by random strangers. Constantly. I don't know if it's her looks or what ..although, I've also had people argue with me that she's a mixed breed/ shelter dog. People are weird.

No one ever asks how much Gimmick cost. Got him for free, but I did lots of snooping and tracked down his breeder, so I know his previous owner paid $750 for him. I think most people just assume he's a mutt

I've always assumed that was part of it. I've had random people come up to me on walks/in the park and say 'Aren't those expensive dogs?' or 'How much do dogs like that cost?'

Err.... depends on where you get them?

People's jaw drop when they find out how CHEAP Outlaw was :yikes:!!!

I paid 350 for him.
Apparently Labs normally go for 600-800 down here with AKC papers, shots, de-worming and from hunting lines?

People ask me ALL the time and ask for the breeder's info as well......

All said and done, $65 Riff became nearly $3000 Riff (so far... knock on wood...) All that for my spastic, somewhat fearful mutt that most people would probably pay to get away from :D Whatever, I love my little man, and it's not their money!

My "fancy" purebred was $350 from a rescue, vetted, neutered & chipped. Totally worth it IMO but I would bet some people think that's way too much for a "second hand dog" Because all worth comes from raising them as a puppy, right?

The two older Schnauzers were $700 from a breeder, Lincoln was $350 from a byb, Charlie cost me $100 and an old cell phone, and Nimbus will be $50 once I finalize the adoption (woot half priced adotions for staff).

Bristol was $500, that wasn't even 1/4 of what they spent to get a nine month old rescued Shih tzu through the unknown pregnancy though.

Diesel was free to good home.

Gage was free to good home as well...then cost us $7000 in TPLO surgeries.

Frodo was $600 too! Maybe that's the secret, if you pay $600 for a dog it is guaranteed to have behavioral and health problems? :p

Glad I paid $650 for Cobain! Feel like a dodged a bullet on that one :lol-sign:

Oz was $295 (I think?, nearly 11 years ago now). Hunting kennel. No papers.

Rigby was $250, came spayed, shots, and all that stuff. ~ Fun fact, she's effectively "paid herself off" as I managed to get a few really good shots of her that won a couple contests ;)

Ruby was free.

Gavroche was "free" and came neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and with a nearly full bag of food. He's cost...a lot...in vet bills.

Logan was $800 but when you factor in traveling and everything it was easily $1600. His broken premolar was caused by a free antler :rofl1: (but his dental was cheaper than Gavroche's UTI antibiotics...8 weeks of Baytril is NOT CHEAP.)

My parents are paying $850 for their new GSD puppy with limited registration.

Lots of people ask how much my dogs cost me as well. And often in the Dobermans' case they then proceed to tell me where I could have gotten a better deal haha. Yeah, no.

Pretty much all non-dog people think it's nuts that I flew home with Journey too. Actually, even a lot of dog people think it's weird lol. Oh well. More than worth it to me!

I guess Juno is actually the only dog I paid for lol. Lucy I ended up getting my money back for because she was diagnosed with luxating patellas and legg-perthes disease within the timeframe of her health guarantee (take that, crappy breeder!), so essentially she was "free". And according to Happy's paperwork, her adoption fee should have been $175, but for some reason they waived it for me.

I don't really look at the price of the dog, I look at what I'm getting, and if everything sounds great and wonderful then I'm willing to fork over some dough for that. Maybe that makes me crazy lol.

I looooove how this Mal looks, and wish I knew where it came from (it was on some google search I did long ago). Pretty pretty. Anyone happen to know what dog it is?

My legs have been falling asleep like mad, and today when I got up to go to another room I about fell over. Called Roxie to me, and had to use her (even though she's 40lbs and only medium sized- barely reaching my knees [I am really short]) to get to a place I could sit down.

She's really quite the champ about things like that. I swear, something happens every day where her easy temperament shocks me. She is such a complete polar opposite to Buddy. I didn't think I would ever find a dog like Roxie... I got so, so lucky.

--

Also, Buddy was $25 from a BYB (I was ten when we got her), Roxie was like $100 adopted.

This is exactly how I feel about Indy. She's so non assuming, she doesn't bat an eye at any crazy thing I ask of her. She will help me up if I fall down, or over. I have been putting some serious muscle on her and her topline dip is gone, so I've been using her to brace a bit more than I normally would have, just because I need her to do it more now.

I've seriously fallen flat on my face in the house because of various reasons, and if I can't get up on my own (dizzyness, legs asleep, whatever) I can call her to me (of course, all the dogs come running when I call any of them) and she will pull me up with me holding her front, or if I can get into a squatting position, she'll brace herself and allow me to lean on her until my head quits spinning. Then she'll take me to the bed or couch or a chair.

I <3 my dog lol, basically. :p

Aw, what a sweet dog :)

I've passed out a few times (sometimes in public, too ) and Rox will just be all calm, standing there till I come 'round and then help me back up.

Watson almost got attacked by a 100lb bouvier at agility last night. Ugh. The dog seems friendly with the other dogs in the class, but apparently decided that Watson was not ok. While he was off leash, he charged up to Watson. At first I just thought he wanted to sniff or maybe play, but then the sniffing got sort of aggressive, with circling and growling. He must have put his teeth on Watson's neck/shoulder because it was wet there. Watson went so far as to bark/growl at the other dog (after this went on for at least a minute or two), which I've never seen him do.

The worst part is the owner was saying "Just grab his collar" to me like it was no big deal. First, I couldn't even see a collar in all that fur. Second, how am I supposed to hold off your increasingly aggressive 100lb dog with one hand? Come and get him! When she made it over, she spent at least a minute or two trying to get him under control as she'd grab him and he would break free and come back. He's well trained in agility, but she has no control over him otherwise. I ended up picking Watson up (mostly) and just spinning to keep myself between him and the other dog.

I'm not sure if it was because Watson was new to the class, because he's intact, or because he returned eye contact briefly. Watson thinks eye contact is an invitation to play, but the bouv obviously took it as a challenge. Now I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that dog, because I don't trust that she can control him even on leash.
