It depends on what you want to work on first, but I think I'd probably be throwing the toy slightly to your left right now, instead of rewarding from your hand. However that's just me being really nitpicky. She looks great. Keep it up!
That totally makes sense, thanks! That's why I love this, other people always see things that I miss. Cool.

I hope it snows a bit more soon, then I can use it to do more stuff like this and it can be a bit of a cushion.

It always amazes me how nicely Dex hits for her rebounds. And then I have wrecking ball tiny Zuma who nearly knocks me over.
Zuma absolutely hits as hard as Dodger, it's totally amazing. I'm blown away (on more than one level) by it, I think it's awesome!

HIT IT

This video is a loud one. We're practicing our short sequence and building value and excitement for it. ... I think she's sufficiently excited. Her accuracy is holding up pretty well. I'm really pleased with it!

ready for some entertainment? This is why I'm not sure Joey will learn a rebound haha. If I can just get him to the point where he will do it off my lap I will be happy. I mainly was just rewarding him for interacting with me here since I couldn't get him to actually jump up and he was being his Joey derp self.... anyone want a beezer? I'll send him to you overnight delivery.

'dawww, I love the derpman. He's so sincere though, love him, he tries so hard. Looking good.

Jackson and I worked on handstand today. He's backing up nicely onto a few books I set up, so that's a plus! yay, but didn't get to work much on rebound yet. I'll probably do it tomorrow and try to get both filmed.

Indy does not want to rebound off me. She will jump into my lap (part of her SD training) but she's very careful about it. I think I may have to do some perch work/hind end awareness with her, because I think she feels like she may fall so that's making her hesitant to do anything other than climb or jump into my lap.

Enzo already knows how to jump into my arms on command, so she keeps thinking that's what I want her to do. I get a face full of labradork every time I lean onto the wall or anything to try to get her to jump up and then off of me.

Ozzy refuses. Dogs are only supposed to be in laps in front of books, TV or computers. :p According to him, anyway.

Use a bigger chair and teach him to jump onto and off of the chair first. Then sit down and get him to jump up and down beside you. Then slowly edge your leg over so he has to start making contact until he has no choice.

I'm using a blanket too. It's not to protect me, it's a constant target for her to help her understand as I change position to still target the blanket. Eventually I'll fade the blanket out.

He's bouncy enough to get this! Tiny steps. The joys of working with sighthounds... tiny steps!

UGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

I am so f-ing frustrated. Yesterday she did a rebound with me leaning against the wall. Today she won't even do it when I'm sitting in the chair. Yesterday I'd ask for it and she'd do it. Today it's like I'm begging her. I'll ask her 20 times and maybe she'll do it once. Nothing bad has happened. Every single time has been solid.

Oh and did I mention that she doesn't want to work even for Kraft singles slices? Which are her favourite. Even though she hasn't eaten hardly anything today? She really wanted to play with toys so I brought out the tug to use as a reward. Did it like twice then decided she also didn't know how to do it for toys even though she really wanted the toy. What. The. Eff.

It's way more frustrating than if she just was learning really slow. The fact that I know she can and HAS done something makes me really irritated when she then two seconds later decides "nope, can't do that and I'm not even going to try". I actually kind of want to throw her through a wall right now. So even though I've been at work all day and should spend time with her, she's going back in her crate and I'm going out to run last minute errands before our trip on Sunday. Probably a really bad attitude to have, but I'm so tired and frustrated that nothing good can come of trying to spend any time with her right now. Uggggggh. Most frustrating dog ever, I swear.

Maybe tomorrow she will stop being an idiot and I will be less tired and will remember that I love her. [sigh]

Is she sore?

Quick little PSA for everyone trying these tricks. This is HARD on our dog's body and unless your dog is used to moving and bending like this, take it easy while you are just starting. Same with perch work. Same with hug.

I thought of that given how she behaved at agility when she had a hurt leg but no, I don't think she is sore. She's jumping on and off the couch and bed like a demon which is basically the same thing.

K, very first session tonight. Excuse my appearance, my mom just had major surgery, so been in the house ALL week taking care of her and my little sister. Perfect time to train tricks though! With the nasty weather too, boredom has definitely kicked in.

Anyway, first session, I was sitting/leaning-ish on my bed. He kept thinking I was asking him something else :p (going under my legs, which he already knows) THEN he tried to jump on my back (I gave him a click and treat for effort :D - bad trainer)

Quoting this from earlier because I only recently realized that our arm-hoop rebound had fallen apart. I'd previously thought that she just wasn't jumping high enough to hit the hoop, or that she was off balance, etc. But today it clicked that she was actively avoiding it by jumping low. I'd never actually "taught" the arm hoop rebound to Cohen - she knew a rebound so I just stuck my arms in the way. So now I'm reworking it, rewarding only for actually targeting the hoop.

My foot rebound work is tough. I'm trying to smooth it out, but it's so hard for me to keep my balance during the short spin sequence. I'll get there eventually, especially once I can work outside again.

How's everyone else going?

Back from Mexicoooooo! Glad to see I didn't miss too much. Kili is acting like she didn't get fed at the kennel, which is awesome for training (and yes, I am sure they did actually feed her at the kennel... however she wouldn't have gotten nearly as many treats). Anyway, I made these awesome dog cookies the other night and she goes nuts for them. Which is awesome because I made a ton of them and all they are is flour, baby food, and sardines. Cheap, easy, dogs love them. Win, win, and win!

Anyway, I was afraid she would have forgotten all about the rebound during the week I was away, but fear not! She is super dog! She is way BETTER than before I left. So my plan is to get her VERY comfortable where we're at. Then increase the height a tiny bit and get her REALLY comfortable there and so on until I'm standing straight.

As a side note, my BF thinks this is the coolest trick ever.
