I always love these threads, and we haven't had one in awhile, so let's go!

If you had to choose five breeds from each group, which would you choose? The breeds don't have to be AKC, I'm just using the AKC groups because they're easiest for me. If one of your breeds isn't recognized by the AKC, then stick it in whichever group it best fits.

Herding:
1. Koolie
2. Border Collie
3. English Shepherd
4. German Shepherd
5. Australian Shepherd

Hound:
1. LH Whippet
2. Silken Windhound
3. Borzoi
4. Ibizan Hound
5. Saluki

Non-Sporting:
1. Standard Poodle
2. Dalmatian
3. Xoloitzcunitli
4. Boston Terrier
5. Finnish Spitz

Sporting:
1. Chesapeake Bay Retriever
2. German Shorthaired Pointer
3. Flat-Coated Retriever
4. Gordon Setter
5. Irish Red and White Setter

Terrier:
1. American Pit Bull Terrier
2. Staffordshire Bull Terrier
3. Jack Russel Terrier
4. Patterdale Terrier
5. Border Terrier

Toy:
1. Papillon
2. Chinese Crested
3. Miniature Pinscher
4. Silky Terrier
5. Toy Fox Terrier

Working:
1. Malamute
2. Great Dane
3. Rottweiler
4. Doberman
5. German Pinscher

Some of these are based on looks, as there are a few groups I don't know much about. Let's hear yours!

Realistically I probably wouldn't own most of them but Im gonna play by the rules and do 5 for each. Working, non sporting, and terrier in particular are just not my groups. So they're kind of random. Not necessarily in order (aka order changes a lot)

1. Border Collie
2. Miniature American Shepherd
3. Pyrenean Shepherd
4. Koolie
5. Shetland Sheepdog

Hound:
1. Cirneco dell'etna
2. Longhaired whippet
3. Silken Windhound
4. Shorthaired Whippet (kind of a cheat)
5. Portugeuse Podengo Pequeno

1. Miniature Poodle
2. Tibetan Spaniel
3. Finnish Spitz
4. Standard Poodle
5. Shiba Inu

Sporting:
1. Golden Retriever
2. Welsh Springer Spaniel
3. Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
4. English Cocker Spaniel
5. Curly Coated Retriever

Terrier:
1. Staffordshire Bull Terrier
2. Border Terrier
3. Jack Russell Terrier
4. Rat terrier
5. Irish Terrier (know nothing about them but there's a cool one doing agility here haha)

Toy:
1. Papillon/Phalene
2. Chinese Crested
3. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
4. Pomeranian
5. Havanese

Working:
1. Doberman

These are not necessarily in any order of how I want them or anything...they're also based more on UKC groupings because UKC groups make more sense.

Herding:
1. Koolie
2. Collie
3. Berger Picard
4. Entlebucher Mountain Dog (I know nothing about this breed other than they're ridiculously cute lol)
5. Belgian sheepdog

Hound:
1. Borzoi
2. Greyhound
3. Xolo
4. Basenji
5. Dachshund

Non-Sporting (part of UKC Companion Dog):
1. Shiba Inu
2. Dalmatian
3. Akita
4. Boston Terrier
5. Lhasa Apso
In reality, just the Shiba. Poodles are firmly Gundogs in my mind, so I put them there instead.

Sporting (UKC Gun Dogs):
1. English Pointer
2. German Wirehaired Pointer
3. Flat-Coated Retriever
4. Standard Poodle
5. Vizsla

Terrier:
1. American Pit Bull Terrier
2. Staffordshire Bull Terrier
3. Airedale Terrier
4. Smooth Fox Terrier
5. Bull Terrier

Toy (part of Companion Dog in UKC):
1. Papillon
2. Chinese Crested
3. Shih Tzu
5. Toy Fox Terrier

Working (Guardian in UKC):
1. Boxer
2. Great Dane
3. Giant Schnauzer
4. Doberman
5. American Bulldog

Misc.
1. American Hairless Terrier
2. Peruvian Inca Orchid
3. Wirehair Vizsla (why is this not in sporting?!)
4. Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen
5. Azawakh

This is really hard when I don't agree with many of AKC's classifications...

I do like viszla and pointers but not sure I could own one. Sporting was one of those groups where I really do like almost all of the breeds though. Same with herding. I'd place most the herding and sporting groups over all the other groups except for papillons of course. Papillons have somehow won me over into the crazy tinydog camp. :p

Pretty much this. Honestly the other groups are *mostly* "these are the ones I like best...but I'm never going to own them ever."

I like vizsla! I just prefer long/feathered coats to super short coats. I need a long hair vizsla and I'd be set (I've seen wirehaired ones, but I like feathers).

I'm also not sure I could handle a pointer. Spaniels and retrievers are more my speed.

You know you can get a German longhaired pointer, don't you ;)
