I'm looking at them and all I see are 6,000 deductibles for $120 a month :(
all depends on what you make, and it took my DH helping my brother for him to figure it out (and he does not make much) but its still usually cheaper than most insurance (which is a whole other topic)

I admit, I am not thrilled with the affordable health care act. It IMO never was enough and got stripped so much through all the crap getting it passed and moving...I want universal healthcare.

uhm, have you actually seen how cheap the plans are? They are actually good plans. They are subsidized and if you don't make that much money, you will qualify for some. My brother for example is paying $30 a month for a silver level plan...the bronze would've been free (he does not make hardly anything but still...) And the fine is not that much either.

Whole hell of a lot cheaper than ending up in the ER with no health care
I hate that this health care was rammed down our throats by our wonderful president. It would be another thing if it was OPTIONAL but it isn't they are making it that either you get heslthcare or you are fined, what hell kind of a choice is that??? and if you think it won't happen you are kidding yourself.

I also don't like the way it was passed ... Under the table without putting it to vote or anything .

Sorry but I guess it's just the conspiracy theorist in me that's suspicious about it lol.

lol, Obama was voted in by the majority of the people. This was not some sneaky surprise. NOt liking it fine, whatever. But it was not rammed down our throats lol...it was his plan (well a stripped down version) that was part of his platform that people voted him in based on

Optional doesnt really work because too many people opt out and then the rest of us have to pay to cover them when the do get sick. It also means the people without insurance are screwed because they can only get health care in emergencies for a super high cost. It also means that people get stuck in crappy jobs because they need insurance for a sick child or partner or themselves....

Yea, I'd much rather pay $0 for health care and tag along on other people's premiums when I get sick, too.

I miss my **** dog....I want the pain to stop. I'm sick of feeling like there is a huge empty hole in my heart, I'm tired of sobbing, I'm tired of gripping onto his collar every night while I sleep. I WANT MY DOG! I want my Beagle back

I ****ING hate cancer and that it stole my barely 11 year old dog from me....

Beau I'd do ANYTHING to even hear you bay again just one more time....

My friends mom gets health insurance now for the first time in almost eight years. She has cancer. They can't turn her down now because she has cancer.

I'm happy.

Is it perfect? Nope. Won't be until we start using it and finding out the flaws.

PW, you probably qualify for a subsidy. I do. My co-worker and I looked the plans up because he's very very liberal and often gets into arguments with his conservative friends, and a friend said "it's going to cost me two to three times as much now!" and he didn't believe it. I had just shopped for insurance on my own in September of 2012 so I said "Let's find out exactly how much it is for me and we'll see."
It WAS just over twice as much - but the plans now cover a lot more than the plans then, and the webpage told me I qualified for a subsidy, but I didn't pursue finding out exactly how much since we were just looking for the general numbers. =P The place I work now signed me up to their new health insurance starting almost right after I got hired so I ended up not buying health insurance for myself nor do I need to do so now... so it might NOT actually have cost me just over twice as much... I dunno.

January 1st of 2013 was a great day. I woke up and had health insurance again after not having it for three months. It was a relief.

I must fail at navigating the website! I seriously, seriously can't find anything reasonable! My monthly premium increased by 50% this year, and I could barely afford it in the first place!

Apparently I need someone to walk me through it. Because I am a very poor college student. People promised me that'd mean I get very cheap health insurance. I can't seem to find it.

I don't have to tell parents their children's antibiotics are hundreds of dollars. I really like that. I like that some of my customers don't have to juggle which maintenance meds they can afford this month. It's not like OMG THIS IS THE BEST, but it's an improvement.

I will say it has jacked up prices for several groups, though. Some deductibles are bigger as well as co-pays. But this will take a few years to balance out. It's going to have issues and hopefully someone will be able to iron them out.

But to say it was passed under the table.... :rofl1:

This. I get tax credits for the premiums so it's free (silver level plan), plus I qualified for no deductible and reduced co-pays. It's better than the insurance I had with my parents. I should be able to get my expensive meds for $10 a month.

If you don't make enough to qualify for reduced costs, then you are either eligible for medicaid (if your state expanded medicaid) OR you are not subject to tax penaties. But you still MUST apply through Marketplace, regardless of where you fall.

Have you actually applied, though? Once you apply it'll tell you what you can get for a tax credit, and that tax credit can be applied directly to your premium. Deductibles can be reduced, too. Mine's reduced down to $0.

ACA is no different, at a basic level, than being required by law to have car insurance. I'm lucky enough to (finally) have employer-provided health insurance again after being without for years. Kaiser has it's own set of snafu's, because let's face it: that's the nature of any giant beast.

I'm just happy they can't disqualify because of pre-existing conditions.

I looked and did the figures . I cant afford it and will just die at home if something happens to me.

Now if my governor had expanded medicaid in my state then it would be different , but he didn't so it's not.

It really depends on that crucial step.

And I'm over here like NO NO NO NO NO *spray Lysol* GERMS AWAY NO NO NO
