You have me! :p

So, is this a collective "Our Chaz resolution is to start replying to picture threads, post more in NOT the catch all threads and anytime a topic comes to mind even if it's a already done in the past topic, to post it."
Agreed!

I always kind of figured I didn't get responses (even when I post on a thread) because I'm still relatively new. I'd like to get more involved, but when I'm not a part of the 'in' crowd, and didn't just get a new puppy, it's easier just to observe than waste time typing up posts or posting pictures without any feedback. Definitely trying to comment on pictures posts when I can, though I don't look at them frequently.

I really think this one has more to do with Facebook.
I agree, I feel like Facebook has a lot to do with it. I myself am really bad for looking at photos on FB first and then find them here too, and do look at them again (because I really enjoy looking at other peoples' photos), but I'm often on my phone and it is such a pain to type on that I don't tend to comment as much as I should/could. But even so, I think the forum was far more active before everyone added everyone on Facebook.

But there are lots of reasons. If I'm at my computer I will make an extra effort to participate, but I just don't have the time most of the time lately so I usually just browse on my phone and make a mental note to look at threads for real (and reply) when I eventually get to my computer. And then I forget or don't have time or something else is going on.

And then there are times where I really enjoy looking at pictures, but run out of things to say. So it's just a combination of a bunch of things. I definitely understand the disheartening feeling of no replies though and for that reason try to make an effort to respond to things. Chaz used to be so active and now it's really hit and miss. It doesn't really bother me anymore if I don't get any replies myself, because I post pictures because I like to share them regardless (and I share too many sometimes so I don't blame people if they've run out of things to say haha), but sometimes it can be frustrating because there is a fair amount of effort that goes into it and then a thread gets like 300 views and 3 replies.

But anyway, no, I definitely don't think it has anything to do with not liking particular people or anything. I think it's just a combination of a bunch of things. They forum is slower in general lately than it has been in the past, and pictures especially have become affected.

I stopped posting picture threads for similar reasons. It is frustrating when you see (over and over again) certain people getting pages of replies while others get none. More often the more popular forum members too. Not worth the editing and posting, honestly, so I stopped. And then eventually put down my camera. Photos are for sharing, it gets discouraging. Even on facebook, where I have plenty if dog people and I'm on the group. Certain people always got more attention than others.

These days it's slow all around, though. That much is true. It got better for a while, then activity in that area of the forum crashed.

I enjoy looking at everyone's pictures, and I TRY to comment but most of my activity is on the phone and it can be annoying at times. I mostly browse. But if I see them on facebook, I will at least like them.

I wonder, too, how much of the inactivity is due to the 'lump' threads, as I see those are active pretty much daily. I've really never been a member of a forum that had more than one 'lump' thread (usually a picture of the day type thread).

I don't get many responses on mine either, but I chalk a lot of that up to the fact I'm not well liked on Chaz. Lol oh well. I still post pictures anyways, and now that I have my new DSLR, I'll be posting a LOT more. Tonight in fact :D

And here I was wondering if I suddenly got popular! This explains all the replies I got haha.

Most of my threads get 0 replies, once in a while it'll be 1 or 2. However, the number of views my threads get is pretty consistent at about 100 to 200 views. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

If nobody was interested in my photos, I would not be getting so many views. So, I just sort of assume (perhaps egoistically) that people do enjoy seeing my photos, but don't always comment.

It can make me somewhat sad when a picture I'm particularly proud of goes unnoticed on both FaceBook and here, but the pictures were for me to begin with. I try to make my photos almost surreal in beauty, because I always look back on my old photos and think "wow, these pictures are boring. But it reminded me of the nostalgic memories I have about it, which were beautiful!"

I want to create photography where I look at them and go, "Wow this is a great memory that's as beautiful as I remember!"

So I never really mind that much when things go missed. I was happy when I was out taking the picture, I was happy when I spent that time with my dog, I was happy when I did my photography, I was happy when I find a picture and improve it in post processing, and I'm happy when I get a good result. I share it, and if someone likes it, that makes me happy. If nobody notices, that didn't change everything up to this point.

A canon rebel eos T3I :) Still learning how it works, but it rocks!
Same! I'm tempted to take a light triangle class.. I have composition down, but I really need to learn how/when to fine tune ISO, shutter speed and aperture.

I seem to be having trouble with getting the camera to focus on the right thing. I think it's the result of bad lighting and a shaky hand lol

Use manual selective focus, it's so worth it. Don't let the camera decide what to focus on.

I might make it my online resolution this year to reply to more threads, especially picture threads. I know how discouraging it can be to not get replies, and who doesn't like people cooing over your dogs? :)

I don't really think the "daily photo thread" is impacting anything, since people generally only post one picture in there - usually something that they wouldn't create a thread about, anyway. Or that's how I use it anyway lol, just for the random cell phone picture.

The venting/good news/musing threads, yeah I think those take away activity, I think there are a lot of things that get put in those threads that in past, would have had their own thread made about it. But eh, I use them too :p

Totally this. I've gotten so much better at tracking movement and getting pictures after changing this. It's a pain if they switch directions but you get fast about adjusting and you can always set the other presets so that you have different points focused.

I also during anything that's action keep it on AI Servo AF so that it's continuously focusing.

As far as Facebook goes, I usually end up posting 1 single picture from a day's worth of pictures on Facebook, then I post the rest to Chaz, and then if I remember/want to later, I post those pictures on Facebook as well.

That could be why I typically get some replies/views on most of my picture threads? I don't actually do it on purpose - I like to edit my favorite picture from the set and then I get so excited about it I want to share on Facebook right away. Then once I edit the rest I'll upload on Flickr and post to the forums, but I don't upload to Facebook because I have to resize the original files (otherwise it takes forever to upload via FB). If I do take the effort to resize, I'll share with my FB friends as well.

So, is this a collective "Our Chaz resolution is to start replying to picture threads, post more in NOT the catch all threads and anytime a topic comes to mind even if it's a already done in the past topic, to post it."
I really like this!

Same here. Even when I try to spice up my photo threads with fun captions... I'll get 1-2 responses. Not worth it. (But I'm guilty of not responding to other threads, though I do try!)
I'm really sorry to hear this! I honestly look forward to each and every one of your photos/threads, and you were one of the people to inspire me to get a DSLR of my own. I figured if I got a fancy camera, I could get the stellar photos that you do, too. I'm still working on that - but I really do love your threads!

I think the reason I've stopped commenting is because over the last 3-4 years on Chaz and 6 years on other forums, there's only so many ways to say "holy gorgeous dogs, batman" and "wow, that photography!". Even if I still mean it every time :)

Everyone was new at one point :) I think I started spamming the forum with pictures from the get go LOL

I enjoy your pictures and really like your dogs - greyhounds are my sister's dream breed so I even pull her over to share sometimes.

Regarding the part in bold -

ummmm NO. NOT TOO MANY. EVER EVER EVER. You are one of those rare people who take/share just the perfect amount of photos. You are perfect. Stay perfect, please.

<3

And here I was wondering if I suddenly got popular! This explains all the replies I got haha.

Most of my threads get 0 replies, once in a while it'll be 1 or 2. However, the number of views my threads get is pretty consistent at about 100 to 200 views. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
