theres an idea. stick the space heater in your room before you go to bed to warm the whole room up, then turn it off when you fall asleep and hopefully it lasts through the night

Oh dear god that made me laugh more than it should have :rofl1: ;)

It's surprisingly relevant, too...

Get an extrication blanket too so if your room goes up in flames like your mother probably thinks it will then you'll be prepared. Lol.

Have you thought of hot water bottles just to keep you warm? They're pretty cheap and should keep you warm enough to at least fall asleep. I have one that has a furry holder and it stays warm for hours. Although it won't do much for your room, but at least you'll be warm.

I feel your pain. My dad is they type of person that thinks if you leave things plugged in its going to burn down the house. Forget about space heaters, slow cookers, etc. I miss out on all the good stuff! I can only use electrical things if I'm around ( and awake) to supervise them

Nope, no space heaters allowed upstairs at all. Grrr.

I did find a heated blanket at Kmart for $25. $25 I don't really have to spare right now, but it's that or freeze, so I got it. Walmart had one for $20 but they were sold out.

That's what we have. My mom is just stupidly paranoid. She won't even let me have my light oor computer plugged in when I'm not home.

And my heating blanket is dead. ****. It got below freezing in my room last night, but it was okay because the dogs and I huddled under the heating blanket. That's not an option tonight. I just want to cry :(
Man screw that ... I would sneak one up stairs and just his it in your coley or something ... What your mom don't know won't hurt her. I used to rent a mobile home from someone who was also super paranoid (and was also too cheap to fix the heating in the mobile home ... It had a propane furnace but it was broken) and I bought a ceramic heater and his it when I wasn't home xD.

But all joking aside, it's not healthy to be that cold.

You guys don't have central heating?

There are good days and bad days with this breakup process I suppose.. woke up this morning knowing it was going to be a bad day.

So am now lying in bed wallowing in self pity even though I have a lot to do today.

Merlin saw me crying and brought me his unfinished bully stick, which I think is pretty adorable

Right? 25 and 225 were hellish. Even my truck slid. I can't imagine how you're doing in a Fit. Do you have snow tires on it yet?

Talk to Zoom about a Subaru. Not today or tomorrow, but maybe after this storm. I liked how my truck drove in the snow, but nothing compares with a Subie. Her XT on all-seasons did better than other AWD cars with snow tires.
I do not have snow tires... no money for them. I'm hoping to make enough around Christmas to be able to put some on, though. I think it would make a world of difference.

I'd never considered a Subaru, but that really might be something to look into! I'll definitely have to hit Zoom up about it soon :)

We do, and I actually have to partially cover the vent to prevent it from getting too hot in my room (seriously, it will get up to and beyond 90 in the dead of winter, since hot air rises). But it's not on, because we can't afford to turn the natural gas on this year. My parents get it turned on in November when the cold weather rule goes into effect, don't pay their bill, and get it turned off in March. So March-October we don't have hot water (which is a MAJOR reason I have a Plant Fitness membership! $10 a month for hot showers? HELL YEAH!). Except now they owe something like $5000 and have to pay almost $500 to get it turned on for the winter, and nobody here has $500 to get it turned on. So no heat, and no hot water.

But I just posted in the good news thread that my mom is starting to give way, and told me to TRY a space heater for a bit and see if the outlet gets hot (?)...if I move the smoke detector to the other side of my bedroom door. I'm really in shock. I think it's because I made her break ice in the dog's water bowls when she fed them lunch while I was at work (I love the 83F warm animal room at work right now...).

I wouldn't have made squinty eyes then. Ok, he morphed into a 17 year old Twilight fan?
Uhh so either he's become exceedingly squeaky and obsessed with RPattz or...????

Well at least you two have come to some kind of compromise ???

Is their a law in areas where it gets below a certain temperature that they can't leave you without heat, regardless of your lack of money?

It depends on where you live. There is here, and we also have the option of donating on our heating bill to a heating assistance fund as well.

There just isn't enough coffee in the world.

And, I get to watch the first hour of the lions game at work, but I don't have anywhere to see the end.

Vent: why does holiday shopping bring out the worst in ppl? Also why can parents leave their kids at home when they are christmas shopping? A babysitter can't be that expensive can it? I feel sorry for the kids that have to be dragged around all day ... It's got to be very tiring and boring for them :(

The law here is that from November 1st to March 1st or until it's not freezing anymore, you cannot get gas or electric turned off for non-payment. But, if it's already off, you have to make a payment agreement and pay 1/12th of the balance to get it turned on. If you can't come up with 1/12 of the bill, you're out of luck.

It's a toasty 64F in my bed area right now :D

Been looking forward all day to curling up in bed with Rick tonight... finally go to lay down with him.

Wide. Awake. FIFTY BILLION THOUGHTS. ALL AT ONCE. The phone is dead so I can't even curl up with him and surf the web.

:(
