I'm liking 4health's use of Lamb instead of poultry and it's higher fat and calorie count. My Lab puppy is showing some signs of intolerance to chicken. He's itching and loose poops on his current food (Puppy Chow, I know terrible food but I was broke and needed some food )

They're both around the same price range and won't break my wallet either.

Thoughts?

I tried 4health back when it first came out and both Kim and Webster got itchy. Was just talking to some folks at a trial recently and when 4health came up, everyone there had dogs that got super itchy on it, even ones like Webster that had shown no previous food allergies.

Don't know why, just my 2¢.

Hmmmmm, that is weird. I'm just really looking hard at these two foods because they are better quality without breaking my purse either. I can get both locally and I'm favoring the 4health more for the lamb in it.

I feed 4Health to my dogs and I love it. No issues. I'm currently feeding a mixture of the Salmon and Potato (grain inclusive) and the Turkey and Potato (grain free and ALS). They've done extremely well on the food. And here, at least, it is cheaper to buy 4Health than the Chicken Soup foods (although I've fed Chicken Soup to my past dogs, and they did well on it, too.).

It's the same price here and but with the 4health I can get smaller bags and can't with Chicken Soup.

Goose and Aesop were both a bit itchy on the 4health. The others were fine. I'm thinking it was perhaps the barley, since otherwise the ingredients were pretty similar to what they were eating before.

I might give the grain free a go, though, and see if we have better luck

Ours are on 4Health, and do great on it, but then they don’t tend to have any food issues. We rotate between the grain-free flavors, they do well on all of them.

Over 25% is plenty of protein. A raw meat diet doesn't have any more than that....

Probably still too early to tell, but how is Outlaw doing on the food? I'm considering adding in Diamond Naturals large breed puppy food (essentially the exact same as 4Healths puppy food) to the food mixture he's getting, in the hopes of switching him over full time if he does well on it.

He loves in just 3 days of eating it he's stopped sracthing and his poops have gotten more solid.

4Health GF is in my dog's rotation. They've done well one it. My parents fed it, too (a grain-inclusive variety) when they had a dog. My dogs ate the brand new bag that was leftover from my parents' dog, and they did fine on it, too.

actually it does.. once you dehydrate it. A hunk of chicken is about 19% as is, but is about 55% once dried. One needs to remember kibble is by dry weight. If a dog needs x grams of protein in a day that is irregardless of the water in said food.
