You know, last year I was trying to find a Christmas quiz to hang up at the register at the pharmacy so people had something to do while they waited. I was going through a million quizes but none seemed right until I got to this one which seemed promising.

That was until I got to the question that said "What is the name of the horse in the song Jingle Bells"

And I sat there, and sat there, and sat there and was so confused. Then I looked at the answers and it said "Bob." and I was more confused. It took me forever to figure out that whoever wrote and published this quiz online thought it was "Bells on Bob's tail ring."

And then I couldn't stop laughing.

So, apparently Fran, you aren't alone in the world :rofl1:

My mom wasn't able to judge when I told her that though because she was convinced it was "There's a bathroom on the right" instead of "There's a bad moon on the rise." from the Bad Moon Rising song.

There have been a ton of lyrics I've messed up... Mostly bc I don't entirely pay attention to music. :) We should make a thread for them.... It would be hilarious.

For YEARS and YEARS I though Madonna was singing "poppadom beach (I'm in trouble deep)" It didn't occur to me to think why she would have been singing about a poppadom beach

I thought it was "dirty jeans, dungarees". It seemed like a stupid thing to write a song about.

More recently, I was certain the lyrics to that popular song were "Hey-oh, I'm Galileo". I was trying to discuss the song with a friend and she was baffled until she remembered that I'm an idiot.

Really, the issue is that artists need to enunciate better.

That is awesome, because all my life until the moment I read your post, I thought that was what he said as well. I always thought of it as, "That douche song."

Oh boy, having worked in radio I heard soooo many of these. "What's that song that goes such-and-such?" "It's this song. And the words are actually this-and-this." "What?? Really?!"

My favourite is still the guy who belted out "AAAAAAAAAAAANGEL!" and I was like "...yeah it's not angel... it's... It's Layla. Laaaaaayla. Eric Clapton." (HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW ERIC CLAPTON????) And he was like "are you sure?! I think it's Angel! He's saying Angel!" No, no he's not. You make me sad inside.

This is still a classic

The actual lyrics:
Get up in the morning slaving for bread, sir
So that every mouth can be fed
Poor me Israelites

My wife an' my kids them a pack up an' a leave me
Darlin' she said, "I was yours to be seen"
Poor me Israelites

Remember "Pumped Up Kicks", that messed up song about killing people? My friend and I were so sure he was saying "All you other kids with the pumped up kicks better run better run faster than my PUPPY", and then later, "Dinner's with the KITTEN and it's packed in ice". We thought it was a cute song for the longest time.

It is "bobtail". ;)

Back in the day, and even today, the tails of draft horses and carriage horses are docked (aka bobbed). It was done to prevent the tails from getting caught in the equipment and subsequently ripped out. At some point it also became fashionable, but its roots lie in practicality. :)

Oh, and bells were often woven into the tails, and sometimes the manes, of the horses during winter time.
