Triops! (Pics within!)

I will once I get it going. It'll have to wait a couple weeks, but I'm very excited.

They're so adorable.

I would love to try triops and your tank set up and wonderful.

Have you ever seen those blown glass inclosed living spheres that have life cycles go on without any interference? THey are pricey but I am so intrigued.

I need to get some new photos - Bacon appears to be thriving. Part of me wonders if he at least partially tried to eat the others, and that's why they weakened. Who knows?

Just wanted to update that Bacon is still alive, well, and swimming drunkenly.

OMG!!! Those are the luckiest brine shrimp on the planet.

I always fed the freshly hatched ones to my baby Bettas (thousands of them...) I never really looked at them. They're adorable. <3

ETA: Nvm, I just looked up Triops. Those are so cool! 300 millions years old?

How old is Bacon now?

Cancriformis!!! Oh man excited, you have to have to share pics. I'm debating trying some of them too. I love their mottled patterning too.

Bacon is approximately 20 days old now and still going strong.

A few shots of Bacon from this morning before the water change. He seems to be thriving as the sole triops left. His carapace has gotten almost prismatic in colour and he's grown even more - almost 3 inches!

I'm seriously considering ordering some cancriformis while I wait for the substrate to dry for the current longicaudatus eggs. Augh these guys are addictive.

You guys are terrible influences. I'm seriously considering ordering some of these to stick on the kitchen table. I mean, like, five bucks for some entertainment while we eat?

Here's a video of Bacon from last night. He does this most nights after I feed him, and was the only one out of the four to do it. He throws himself into the bubbles, gets covered in them, then dances all around the tank. Wash rinse repeat. He's a riot. They really do have little personalities.

Bacon's still active, but he's starting to flip about and sit upside down a lot, which the others did when they started to fade. He may be on his last few days. This is sadder than I expected it would be!

Do you have to dry the substrate to get the eggs , or do some hatch without drying out first?

What I read made it unclear . I read that some eggs do have to dry and others dont? halp!!

They need to be dried out completely. Then, you can re-hydrate them and that stimulates them to hatch.

We lost Bacon this morning. RIP Sandwich Triops. Letting the water cool down, then it's time to drain!

Me too! All I've had time to do so far is siphon the water down to the sand. From here I'm unsure what the best process is.

The triops laid most of their eggs along the right side and front side of the tank, so I may just dig up all of that sand and focus on that, and put the rest of the sand aside for re-use.

Most things say that freezing the wet sand for a few days will simulate winter and re-hatching without the need to dry it out, but I'm still researching. Most egg-harvesting articles I see are for gravel users.

I also want to re-do my tank, and add plants in the time while I wait. A simple plant or two, it will keep the tank cleaner and the triops love a 24-hour snack bar!

Might spend my lunch break doing some research. I'm excited for the second generation, these guys are addictive!
