What are the best foods at Petco? I'm looking right now at Merrick, Blue Buffalo, and Castor & Pollux. Feeding one 40 pound moderately active dog. Currently on Acana, he's been on TOTW in the past. He was on Native in the past but it trashed his coat.

No known sensitivities. I'd prefer several flavors of the same formula, I like to rotate protein sources. Grain free preferred, but not required. I like a protein % of at least 24%.

Suggestions? I'll probably end up trying a bunch of 5 pound bags before committing to something bigger, but I'm interested in y'all's thoughts. Is there a brand I'm missing? Nutro and Natural Balance aren't that good, right?

iirc, Petco carries Solid Gold, unless youre thinking Petsmart which does not. What about Victor? or a kibble from a feed store/small pet store?

Nature's Variety, Merrick and Blue are the best IMO. NV is cheaper and really good! I like Instinct a lot :)
Maybe it's an area difference but the Instinct is around $85 dollars a bag, so I wouldn't call it cheaper.

Cara did really well on the Merrick grain free and still gets it from time to time!

Back in the day Grocery Outlet had a ton of Castor and Pollux Organix dog food bags for super inexpensive, so I bought a ton. They were the turkey and brown rice I think?

Anyway, the three dogs were on them for a few months until we ran out. They seemed to do great. Before that they were on Taste of the Wild. They did better on Taste of the Wild but Castor and Pollux was a good food. I wouldn't pay what they ask around here for full price. I'd buy Solid Gold first, but that's based on how my dogs do on those brands. Your mileage may vary.

The 25# bag of Instinct is actually $50 here. Idk why???

I liked Merrick GF too. They really improved their kibble line!

Haha yeah it's $75 and up depending on protein source for Instinct at our Petco. (I know because I buy small bags for training treats, and thought about switching buut Cara does well on Merrick which is cheaper, so why?)
