Just found this forum and am excited to join. I see a lot of familiar dogs and names from around the interwebz.

I currently have one dog, a 14 month old Welsh Springer Spaniel named Watson. I'd like to do sports with him some day (obedience, rally, and nosework; maybe some agility). We're currently working on his championship first until his brain grows in a little. He's a sweet boy, and hilarious, but he's in a state of arrested development and thinks he's still 9 months old.

Hopefully this picture works:

Welcome to the forum! Gorgeous gorgeous dog!

But don't you know? Boys never grow brains, they just trick you into thinking they are mature to lull you into a false sense of security. Then BAM! Brain gone!

You will like it here. :)
Yes! I have been reading a lot of older threads and already really enjoy the crowd here. Not sure how I missed the existence of this forum for so long.

I am now searching for Koolie and English Shepherd breeders as well. Clearly this forum is a horrible influence.

Thanks! It's like one day he went from doofy to handsome and I didn't even notice. He's done fairly well in the conformation ring so far, so I guess his breeder was right when she said he was something special and talked me into showing him.

Buy why didn't anyone tell me this about the brain thing earlier?! Haha. Yeah, we'll see how it goes. He's definitely in arrested development right now and one of our instructors was shocked that he was already 14 months, and said she still thinks of him as a 9 month old. Uh, yeah, that's because he hasn't matured at all since 9 months. lol

I grew up with a male and female (schnauzers) and the brain thing is 100% true. That girl was smart as a whip and very mature at a young age and the boy was always a doofus. DH wanted a girl, I wanted a boy, and we agreed to take whatever was available/the best fit, and that turned out to be a boy.

He's a sweet boy though, and when he's not being a jerk from 8-10pm every night he's a blast.

Thought I already replied to this, but my posts never showed up. Weird.

Thanks! He went from doofus to handsome overnight I think. I guess his breeder was right when she said he was a special pup at 5 weeks. After 30 years of breeding she would know!

And yeah, nobody mentioned the brain thing when I got him, though from experience with family dogs (a male and female schnauzer) I should have known better. Welsh are notoriously slow to mature anyway, so I figure his brain will show up around 5-7 years old if we're lucky. Haha. Maybe DH was right in wanting a girl, but don't tell him I said that.

Hi and welcome.

Your boy is very pretty :)

My basenji's name is Watson as well :D
Thanks! Nice to see another Watson around!

Nice to see you here! I love seeing Watson! :D
I'll share Watson pictures if you share Ollie pictures. We need more spaniels pics on these forums.

Koolies and ES's aplenty here! And apparently go well together too according to the newest Koolie addition to an English Shepherd home by a member here :D

But really, that's what is so awesome about boys, they are eternally young and never fail to make you laugh right along with them even when you feel like killing them! And they are just totally in love with you. I think I always need a goof ball of a boy with my girl.

It is funny though, how fast girls turn on and how intense they can be from the get go when the boy dogs are over there dancing on the table!

WELCOME! I have this new rule that if people post pictures, I'm going to reply to their threads. It's like people are missing the giant red banner saying "POST PICTURES WITH YOUR INTRO" at the top of this forum. Oh, wait, there isn't one of those? Well, we need one.

You're the first person who posted a picture that I've noticed, and your dog is GORGEOUS! I can completely understand what you're going through. My dog is an ESS mix and he still doesn't have brains at 8 years old. At this point, I've given up hope that he ever will.

So anyway, welcome to chaz. There's nothing like being welcomed to chaz by a drunk!Nolu.

Welcome aboard! Your boy is absolutely STUNNING. And please don't tell me he is 14 months old and still doesn't have a brain...my boy is six months old today and I'm DYING for him to grow up already. If I have another year and a half of still perpetual puppyhood I'm going to cry. :rofl1:

Drunk is the best! I may have had too much wine tonight.

I hope his brain shows up eventually. I'd really like to get a CD and RN - not too much to ask. His breeder was shocked that I was doing conformation instead of obedience right now and I wanted to say "have you met him?" He loves to train and knows lots of things, but he's an impulsive bugger. Well trained and poorly behaved. Lol

I guess this is sporting dogs for you. He's my first sporting dog and it's definitely different from the terriers that I grew up with. I'm learning about what "slow to mature" really means.

Your boy is a chessie? One of our instructors breeds and shows chessies so I have a soft spot for them now. Cool dogs.

Now time for moar pictures!

Here's the picture from the the first time he won a point. I think he's 10 months here. Luckily he's filled out a bit since this.

And to show his true personality, here is doofus Watson:
