Its scary what awful advice supposed experts give sometimes!

And wow, she is so freaking cute :)
I couldn't believe it. And she didn't really ask what Falon's sleep habits are like - because they're usually pretty good and if she wakes up in the middle of the night there's a REASON. Barring last week, she doesn't wake up just to fuss, or just to hang out with us. She wakes up because she's hungry or wet.

Thank you. :) I was trying to get a picture of her sweater this morning and she sort of slumped over so she could stare at...something. Probably a dog. Lol.

Today we discussed future child-leashing. She's already super high energy...I wouldn't use it all the time but if I can't keep both eyes on her and its a matter of safety, I'll put her on one. her dad thinks leashes are for parents who are too lazy to watch/keep up with their toddlers. I think he's grossly underestimating how fast a 2 year old can move.
My Mom put me on a leash when I was a toddler and I would have no reservations about putting Falon on one. Toddlers are super fast AND they have poor recalls.

I was very tempted to use a leash on Cian...hell I still am and he is 6!!! He is just VERY much in his own world and does not hear you unless you have his full attention. He also likes to wander and pays no attention to where he is or where he is going. Luckily he always loved being worn so if he started getting too wandery I would just throw him on my back or in the stroller if I had one. He never really pushed walking as he enjoys being held or confined as I think it lets his imagination go even freer.

So we switched offices for Falon's six month shots and the new doctor appears to be full of crap. She claimed that at six months babies should be sleeping for 10-12 hours UNINTERRUPTED and that if we didn't start feeding purees right now she would take months to eat properly....in related news, we're going to be switching doctors again. But, Falon is happy and healthy and because of the magic that is baby Ibuprofen was only sad for a couple hours over her poor sore legs.

16lbs 11oz, 25 inches long, and ADORABLE.

Everleigh has her 4 month appointment on Thursday and I know I'll be getting the talk about solids and sleep too. I just smile and nod then go home and carry on. She's 19.6lbs and clearly not lacking.

Falon is adorable!!!!!

Wait, don't most pediatricians recommend solids at 6 months now?

Lillian slept in her bassinet from 11-7 again. I got 7 straight hours sleep for the first time in like 5 months :). And I had a spa day with my mom and stepsister yesterday...massage, sauna, steam room, etc. I feel so great :)

Thanks! And 19lbs!! Oh my gosh lol. How big was she when she was born?

Wait, don't most pediatricians recommend solids at 6 months now?
They just changed the recommendation to four months. But our previous ped said that we shouldn't feed fruit or vegetables before six months so....yeah. I guess we could have fed her rice cereal but have you looked at that stuff? Looks gross. Personally, I feel that babies will let you know when they want to eat solids. But it is fun to watch Falon make "OMG your poisoning meeeeeeee" faces.

Wait WHAT??? Are you serious???

That really disturbs me honestly. It used to be 4-6 months but with all the research and studies 6 months became the absolute youngest. Can't believe they changed the recommendation BACK to 4. So dangerous.

Ok, well, hmm....found this on their site

How long should I breastfeed my baby?
The AAP recommends that babies be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months of life. This means your baby needs no additional foods (except Vitamin D) or fluids unless medically indicated. Babies should continue to breastfeed for a year and for as long as is mutually desired by the mother and baby. Breastfeeding should be supported by your physician for as long as it is the right choice for you and your baby.

I asked my local moms group as many there have much younger babies and newborns. None of them had heard of it being changed back, just some Drs still giving the outdated months and some sites giving the old advice.

Weird.

That is weird. I kind of feel like I should email that ped and let her know. And I'm now really really glad that I went with my instincts and didn't start solids until now.

Everleigh was 9lbs 6oz when she was born lol

I heard that the 4 month recommendation was a very brief and poorly supported recommendation and they went from the 4-6 recommendation to 6 months.

We will be doing BLW so we won't start until 6 months at least. I'm in no hurry to start solids. Why make extra work for myself? Food before one is just for fun. :)

I also want to do blw, but we might go straight to veggie purées. I'll be skipping the rice cereal, hopefully.

Lillian is rolling over like a pro. And attempting to crawl. She balanced for a few seconds on all fours the other day, but mostly she's just plowing herself across the floor (slowly) with her legs while her arms frustrate her.

She's only 3.5 months. I'm in BIG trouble

How many of you have your children in daycare and how did you choose the facility? I recently had to switch Ryland's daycare providers because I got a new job and the hours were radically different and didn't match the daycare he was already in. I had literally 3 days to get my child care assistance switched over to the new daycare, and his enrollment papers filled out. I had already toured and did an intake interview with one (the first one on the child care assistance providers list that matched my hours) so he is going there. But, after looking online, they have AWFUL reviews. There's about 10-12 reviews, and only one is nice that is recent. There's a couple other nice ones, but they're old and from 2008 or so. So I'm kind of freaking out. I will pull him out if I have to... I didn't necessarily get a bad vibe from the place until the director called me a "customer", which is what I am technically, but that certainly makes a parent feel like a statistic rather than someone who has a child you will love and care for all day. Their rooms also feel a little... Cold? Not temperature wise, just LOVE wise. I don't know, maybe I'm freaking out for no reason and it's all in my head...

Also, how the hell do you get your mother to seriously just shut up trying to tell you what to do with your kid? Mine lives 5 hours away, and still manages to drive me bonkers. "Give that baby boy some rice in his bottle, he's hungry." "No mom, that can choke them and lead to allergies." "Barbara that's stupid, I did it with you and you're fine, stop believing everything you read on the internet." She is like that with absolutely everything. And this past week he had bronchitis, and she blamed me for not taking him into the doctor soon enough. Like, what? I took him in as soon as he had symptoms. And then when we gave him breathing treatments, she was all "Make sure you give them to him Barbara, he'll get more sick if you don't." Like, I KNOW. He's MY SON. I care about him too and do what's best for him, too. Why does she think she's the only one who cares or gives a crap?

UGH.

As far as feeding babies before 6 months, here's some anecdotal evidence:

At my daycare, we don't feed them baby food until 6 months. We had a mom insist we feed her son (4 months) some green beans. We assumed she had done it at home, but I think she just wanted to test the reaction out on us. And boy, was there a reaction. The poor baby threw up almost immediately after and threw up for the rest of the day until my director made his mom come and get him. So... Yeah. 6 months should be the recommendation, for sure.

Well, sometimes day cares can seem a bit cold because they have to be kept as clean and sterile as possible. But if you're getting a bad feeling about the place, I'd look elsewhere.

So Lillian likes to pull herself into a sitting position holding onto my hands. Today, she pulled herself into sitting, and then continued and pulled herself into a standing position! I feel like as soon as she starts sitting without support, she'll be pulling herself up on her crib and stuff.

When do I get any of the good side effects of pregnancy? Aren't my nails supposed to be stronger and my hair growing thicker and healthier looking?

My nails are just as peel-y and brittle as ever (don't even make it to the tips of my fingers before cracking and ripping off), and my hair is shedding 10x worse than ever. I get a full hair brush every time I brush my hair, and the kids/teachers at school are commenting on how much I'm shedding. I've stopped wearing black entirely because it's so embarrassing. I am going to have to start putting my hair in a ponytail every day (not exactly professional, but kind of a necessity) just to prevent my clothes from being covered in blonde hair :(

Googled it and said there's no real normal during pregnancy...some get great hair, some lose it all. GAH. Guess this is my pay back for not having any morning sickness!

Realize that a ticked off customer is 150% more likely to write a review than a satisfied one. Look at apartment ratings online. It is nearly impossible to find a place with a higher score than 75/100 around here. We loved our first apartment and had a great experience with the staff, but the reviews online made it look like a roach infested place run by ex cons or something.

Trust your instincts. I wouldn't pay attention to any reviews over a year old, as the staff and policies may very well have changed since then anyway.

I was able to enjoy pregnancy from about February to May. (I was due June 9th, had her the 16th). So....from probably like 26 weeks to like 38 weeks.

Actually, I had horrendous heartburn for the last few weeks. I enjoyed it if I only ate bananas and instant breakfast that day.
