Someday... someday I would like to walk into a kill shelter and walk out with an adult dog, one that "nobody wanted." Maybe one that got returned several times. Maybe the one that cowers in the corner because it thinks you're going to strike it, the one that just needs a little extra love.

Someday.

Just a thought, you can ignore this thread if you like.

I want to do that aswell. And was very close to actually getting that dog. He was a sheltie/greyhound, 3 years old. Sat and just shook in the corner of his "cell". By the time we got back the next day he was actually adopted, the day before. I assume just after I left or so. I was sadend and so happy at the same time. That was 6 years ago I sure hope he is a happy 9 year old now.

Saaaame here.

It'll have to wait quite a while though. My mom has the popular thought that if a dog is at a shelter, something must be wrong with it for people to not want it. And adult dogs in shelters are even worse because their habits can't be changed.

Yeah.

That's what I want to do to, I frequently wish I didn't have to wait so long, I have two years of high school and many years of college that remain, then I have to wait until I'm in my own house and financially able to care for a dog *sigh*. I have imagined myself walking in, asking whose time is up and seeing who I love. Except I will most likely go for the obnoxious one who leaps all over me and has bad habits.

As soon as my daughter grows a couple more years I will. I am sure we will be in a better financial situation than and we already have the house and yard.

Nah we all try to ignore our want and big hearts to wanting to help but its hard. I think we would all save every dog that passed us if we could and take them into our homes. Thank goodness for dogs and cats getting fixed.

i've done it twice

the first time was with Blossom (in my sig). As a seven year old Dalmatian (mix) that, supposedly, hated young kids (she loves them, they were wrong), she was at the humane society for exactly two months minus one day when I brought her home. They said nobody wanted her because of her age, her breed, and that she supposedly did not like young kids.

I wanted her. :) We're very happy!

I feel the same way. I suggested adopting an older animal to my husband for our next dog/cat (he's got no say about the ferrets) and he says he's prefer a puppy or a kitten :(

Hopefully our current pets will all be with us long enough for me to change his mind though :p
