lol I know soooo many seasons trainers with this same story.
Uhhh yeah the broad jump gets forgotten so much lol.

We had it in a Masters course recently and a lot of people were saying, holy crap my dog hasn't seen a broad jump in years...well, guess I'm just going to run hard, yell "jump" and hope! Haha

One or two of them did NQ on it too -- didn't jump enough and nicked the last board. But most dogs will clear it if you get them running hard on the approach. Obedience is a little different since you're just standing there...

Good luck today Beanie!

Yup! We mostly just see it in steeplechase. When it showed up in Advanced jumpers last weekend, some people were actually asking what it was!

I've seen a few dogs try to run across it on their first try ever, but I agree that most dogs just jump it as they come to it.

Hope today is going well!

There was a broad jump for a few classes at Border Collie Nationals last week, too. I'd say 5-10% of the dogs NQ'd on it... many walked across it or nicked the end.

Well.

Baby P has his NAJ.
And Qd his very first ever time in standard.

I teared up a little when I grabbed his "new title" ribbon. I can't believe it. He is such a good boy.

He did AWESOME for his very first outdoor trial. No peeing on anything. And his contacts were all beautiful. I'm so proud. My little guy.

Congratulations Beanie! And congrats to everyone because it seems like 99% of everyone here is having success :D

I played agility this evening with Penn, set up a starters Jumpers course& ran it. We ran it flawless the first time, had a few mistakes the second& third then finally my boyfriend came out& offered to film it so she was running low on juice& enthusiasm by this point! I managed to get my boyfriend in on the action ..his first time 'running' agility! 3 jumps& a tunnel ahaha

YAY Beanie!!!! HUGE congrats :D

And Penn looks sooooo good!

Well today was not good in terms of Qs, but each course only had one mistake and Kimma actually RAN for the first time since we started competing! No stress signals, just running and having fun. My heart is so happy. Here I was thinking of pulling her from competition for, like, ever because she had gotten to the point where she was panting/trotting most of the courses... I think the cooler weather, plus the outdoor trial (indoor things seem to make her more anxious for obvious reason) helped. I also changed up my routine with her before we get in the ring to include more stretches, so maybe that helped. I dunno but I'm happy and she was happy :D

We'll start with baby P:

His Open Jumpers run looks more like the Payton I am used to hahaha. THAT is my baby dog. The dog who's running around in all these other runs, I dunno who that is. Poor guy got popped in the face by a weave pole in jumpers and was quite startled, but I was very proud that I just pulled him back and he got it done instead of staying offended.
Overall very pleased with Payton. He needs more control, but that is something I've been noticing as we practice - as he's gotten more and more confident in various obstacles and sequences he's gotten faster and the control is slipping a bit. I have a whole host of things to work on with him this fall and winter, and hopefully he will be a really great dog come spring (and hopefully I'll suddenly come into money so I can trial him more often.) After Saturday he was getting a fan club. My heart was glowing with how many people thought he looked good and was coming along really great. One person even told me he looked every bit as good of a dog as the world team person's future world team dog. We are all very proud of him and excited for his future.

Even MORE exciting however is that on Saturday, Auggie's brother/Georgie's dad got his MACH2 and I was there to see this one! He had some really beautiful runs. I haven't seen him for a while since I haven't been trialing but I'm told he has been running really nicely lately, and he sure looked like it to me.

Suffice it to say I maybe overdid it a bit Saturday night when we all went out to celebrate Quigley's MACH2 and Payton's NAJ/first "double Q." My mom asked me Sunday morning as I downed some pepto bismol "Did you eat something you weren't supposed to?" Look, it was called "Chocolate Beyond All Reason," how was I supposed to NOT eat it? And that was after the two margaritas. And along with my glass of Rumchata on the rocks. And between cheesecakes... (In my defense I didn't eat anything else that entire day!!)

Next up BABY GEORGIE:

My mom admitted to me she was disappointed Georgie didn't get any Qs but I don't see anything in her runs to be disappointed with. I am very proud and pleased with Georgie. She did a lot of things I knew were potential trouble spots for her debut... she did the tire instead of trying to go around/under it. She got on the rubberized contacts and stayed on them instead of being disturbed by the texture and bailing. She got her weaves. She didn't drop any bars. She did tunnels splendidly! And she even did the chute despite not wanting to go through it the first time. So many good things she did, I just can't find it in myself to be at all upset or disappointed in what she DIDN'T do. Even though she didn't ride the teeter all the way down and got an E for that. For a baby dog who has been mostly trained by somebody who has never actually done agility before, and who ONE WEEK ago didn't want to even go halfway up a teeter set all the way to the ground, I think she's a rock star.

So after the weekend, Payton brought home three blue ribbons, a new title, and has two standard legs. My mom has a host of stuff to work on with Georgie as well. Next trial is indoors in two weekends, then we get a break and then trial outdoors on dirt the next weekend. After that Georgie will be done, but I'm entering Payton one more time in November indoors before breaking for winter.

Does anyone make their own agility equipment to practice on? After our new fence is finished, I want to start playing around with Josefina in agility but I don't want to spend a lot on equipment in case she suddenly decides she doesn't like it LOL.

Not much to report here, post-MACH. Guess that kind of took the cake. Webby is taking a break, possibly re-retired. Mira and Kim aren't entered in anything til late next month. After Kim's re-debut following her 15-month hiatus I am going to continue running her a bit, if she's willing. She had a lot of fun out there and was just ever so very pleased with herself, haha. I've been targeting her wild zoomy moods and taking her out in the field to channel them into something constructive and to get her weaving while wild. She nailed all five weave series last night while in ears-pinned/butt-tucked mode so yay! Still a lot if work to do to get them consistent...the glories of bad First Dog foundation training...her weaves are always the first thing to break down. Which is precisely why Mira's entries are super, haha.

So we're just brushing up foundation skills and doing a lot of crosstraining work. It's fun, but I am looking forward to getting back in the competition ring.

I'm down to 1 class a week too, which sucks. I'm usually out there 2-3 times a week. I keep trying to convince myself a break isn't a bad thing and I'm sure new classes will open up soon and in the meantime I can use my class money for this month to buy a real tunnel. lol

Anyways, tonight was our first agility class after getting stormed out last week. It was also the first class where it was cooler (lower 80s) and getting dark. OMG what a difference! Mia's speed was probably 80% back up to the point that my new trainer (who has only seen summer weather Mia) was shocked at how fast she was. Summer's first run was like a rocket lol. Oh my word I was sprinting as fast as I could. Very exhilarating when they crank it up the whole way. Summer did tire out by the end- there were only 3 dogs in class as opposed to the usual 5.... I had 2/3 of the class! I got a workout.

Some good stuff today and I love my new trainer. She's been great at pointing out my handling inconsistencies (there's a lot). My dogs rocked tonight even though both went off course quite a few times- every time was my fault. I need to think more about what I am doing with my body and not so much about just hurrying to get ahead.

Summer is more handler focused and Mia is more obstacle focused so that's been challenging. I have to exaggerate with Summer a bit more to get her to cue the right discrimination. I also have a bad habit of not paying attention to what Summer is doing when we go to set up and also once we're done. Apparently she's criss-crossing behind me and that is causing some of our issues with her wanting to switch sides on me mid-run.

OH and teeter! Mia did 3 happy teeters. :) I could tell she's still a bit worried but I think salami is overcoming that.

I hope it continues to go well before the November trial. :)
