I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned here, but I photograph shelter dogs about once a week for one of my local animal controls. This: http://www.norfolk.gov/index.aspx?nid=278 is who I photograph for most of the time, although if a shelter/rescue asks, I make time for them too!

Anyway, I thought I'd share a few from the latest batch of dogs.

Male, Beagle, HIGH energy, and freaking cute!

Female, Pit Bull, sweet girl.

Male, Corgi mix, OMG cute.

Male, Terrier mix, I have a love for the scruffy dogs, so this guy is just perfect.

Female, GSD mix, sweet but very scared.

Female, Pit Bull mix

Bonney, female, Terrier mix

Clutch, female, Lab, really like her. For whatever reason, her tail is docked.

Buford, male, Hound mix. BIG boy that needs some manners, but he's really sweet.

Ellie, female, Hound mix

Will post a few more..

Harvey, male, Beagle, his head tilt alone makes me like him!

Hudson, male, Basset Hound.. pretty self explanatory.

Macaroni, male, Terrier mix

Sable, female, Pit Bull mix, I think she looks more Am Bulldog but whatever. She's cute.

Watson, male, Hound mix

Zoe, female, Lab mix.. her coloring is gorgeous!

Sable totally looks like she's raising her eyebrow in a "Excuse me? Really?" sort of way :p

You take gorgeous photos! It must really help adoption rates!

Thanks guys :) Shelter dogs are how I really started getting into photography, so I owe a lot to them! I've been doing this for 3yrs. now. Have been with this AC for about 7-8 months.

Here are a few before/after's.. I love doing these.

:( Why does clutch have to be there now, super bad timing. I love Labs.... but only after they turn 3. HaHa. And I am obsessed with no tails, so she would be perfect. But, I'm in no position to take her right now.

Aw that's too bad! She's super sweet :)

It has been my dream, as an aspiring photographer, to do exactly what you do, and wow, you are an inspiration. What you do is AMAZING!
Wow, thank you! That means a lot. I always urge anyone that wants to get into photography or learn more to stop by some of their local shelters and ask if they'd like pictures taken. Most are begging for people to come in and take decent pictures!

Wow, these are stunning! I love the before and afters! I'd love to do something like this, but my photos are so touch and go on whether or not they turn out. I will just stick to chance and keep shooting my fosters. Haha.

OMG those 2 male scruffy terrier mixes. :D LOVE them... you take fantastic pictures. It makes all the difference when scrolling through adoption sites to have GOOD pictures of the dogs.

Thanks! I'm sure you could do better than most shelters ;) Half the time the staff doesn't have time to take pictures, much less half decent ones.

I know, aren't they cute?! Thank you!

Fabulous shots, and such a great thing to do! I really need to find the time to start doing this. :) and of course I have to ask, what lens?

Thanks :)

Thanks! It's very rewarding and fulfilling. 99% of the time I use my 85mm for shelter dog shots. It's lightweight, prime so I don't have to worry about zooming and such, and it's so freaking sharp. I LOVE my 85mm.
